I use Westpac and get charged $15. I've combined as many as 8 checks at once for just the one 15 buck fee. Just watch how long the checks are valid for if you accumulate several.
I've noticed some branches won't do this for you so I make sure I use the local branch where I'm known.

I used Westpac last week an they charged me $20. The charge is per transaction from different payer. For example I had 2 Clickbank cheques and 2 Amazon cheques and payed $40.
    Hope this helps.

I use NAB. For smaller amounts (I seem to remember less than $5000) my local branch clears the US$ cheque in only a few days, for $10.

After having to wait 5-6 weeks at CBA I asked around and NAB were the only ones to do quick clearance.

I recently had an ANZ account and they charged $15, it was in within 3 days.
St George $15, took 3-5 biz days
Commbank said they take 30 days to clear, WTF!....
