My 1st CPA Experience - 7search + Dating Offer

4 replies
I started my first campaign last week using a dating offer from Peerfly that pays $3.25. I created a few different landing pages to split test and had a list of keywords ready. I also had a couple different ad copies to test. I received a lot of impressions and had clicks that just weren't converting so after about 100 or so clicks on them, I paused one particular keyword and those that were relevant to it. I then started focusing on other keywords, and decided to revamp my landing pages and split test those to find the one that seemed to be doing the best. Then I played around with the ad copies a bit more until I settled on two that have the best stats. I had spent $18.00 at that point and no conversions.

So now I have two ad copies running and one landing page. My ad positions were on the low side so I increased bids on certain keywords to move up to the top spot. Since making these changes, I have made 2 conversions ($6.50), spending $8.27. I'm in the red but I was so happy to see the conversions! The keywords that remain don't bring in a large volume of traffic, though.

I was able to determine which keywords brought the conversions in my Peerfly dashboard but for some reason, Prosper202 just shows [no keyword] for the conversions, although other keywords that did not convert are listed.

Any tips, advice on what I should do next? Keep letting this run on 7search? I was tempted to take the information I do know (the LP that's converting, the ad copies that are converting and the keywords I know are converting) and taking it over to POF but I wonder if I have enough data.

    Luke says you can find the subID passed in by Prosper in your reports page I need help tracking with SUB ID on peerfly | PeerFly Publisher Forum

    I don't use Peerfly, but you may be able to pass the prosper subID by appending something like this to the link:
    &s1=[[subid]]

    Requesting the subid blocking tool in 7search (not related to prosper subIDs) and tracking the ID of each click source, allows you to root out and block some of the more obviously fraudulent publishers.

    Using the prosper reported referrer in conjunction to this appended to the 7search link

    kw=###KEYWORD###-###AFFID###-###RID####

    allows you to capture that publisher ID.

    I have seen things like one publisher who owns 1000 sites, all of which with a plain search box with no text content on their home page. You might do well on 7search if you selected offers that targeted a paid to click audience with things like surveys.

    Webapex addressed your tracking issues I believe but to have the two conversions with that amount spent is not too bad, it's just playing with it now. See if you can think of more keywords that could work, see if you can change your bid prices again. What about country targeting? How about split testing between different offers?

      I wouldn't suggest that you start a campaign on POF at this point. It sounds like you're close to having a winner on 7 Search, so it would probably be best to focus your time and money there. Then, once you have one successful campaign running on 7 Search, it will be easier to create more successful 7 search campaigns. POF is a completely different traffic system and a whole new learning curve.

      If you want to scale this campaign up onto other traffic sources, I would say to stick with PPC. The data you're collecting on 7 Search would be much more useful for starting a campaign on Bing. That's what I would suggest for your next move.

      It sounds like you had some tracking issues with Prosper. I would second everything webapex advised you, except for one thing...

      Passing the variables as kw=###KEYWORD###-###AFFID###-###RID### will get you all the data you need into Prosper, but it leaves you with all your data for keywords and for source sites mashed together in a single value. If you wanted to see data just for keywords, or just for traffic sources, you would need to parse it all out manually. This is something you would need to do often, and it would take a lot of time.

      Prosper has some really neat features under the "Group Overview" that allow you to sort and analyze your data very efficiently when you pass multiple variables in your tracking link.

      When you are creating your tracking links, scroll down to the boxes "c1", "c2", etc. Enter the tracking tags from 7 Search here. I like to set c1=###AFFID### and c2=###RID###. After you create your link, add ###KEYWORD### to the end, and you'll have a link looking like this:

      mytracking.com/tracking202/redirect/dl.php?t202id=12345&c1=###AFFID###&c2=###RID###&t2 02kw=###KEYWORD###

      Then, you can go to Overview > Group Overview and sort your data however you like

        Thank you for the responses! My tracking links are currently set up as:

        c1=###KEYWORD###&c2=###AFFID###&c3=###RID###&t202k w=

        So I'll move ###KEYWORD### from c1= to kw= instead.

        I've now spent $16 with no more conversions, I'm starting to wonder if this is a 'good for the weekend' type of campaign since that's when the two conversions occurred.

        I haven't tested any other offers just yet but will be doing so and I'm targeting the countries that are allowed for my offer. I'm also going to try another angle on this offer...
