Think of affiliate marketers like salesmen, they do own a business. They always have the choice on where to by traffic from and where to send it to.

I agree 100%. When you are the guy who can determine where the traffic will come from and where it will go to, then you own a business, because you have a service that others need, and you do it on your own, without working for someone else.

    From Webster:
"Business: a usually commercial or mercantile activity engaged in as a means of livelihood". Right now this is paying for my beer on weekends. So it's a business to me .

I think this is a question to say do you have personally have a business.

I know lots of real affiliate businesses that have systems, intellectual property, employees, balance sheets and lots of other things that make up a business.

Now I also know a lot of self employed people that are single affiliates "winging it". I would not call this an affiliate business.

You mention that affiliate is doing nothing more then buying and sending traffic. Well honestly this is what almost all ad networks are doing. They buy traffic and sell it to someone else. And the ad network space is a 10's to 100's of billion dollar business.

So as with most things in life it's all about perception. How you personally see it, want to see and knowing where you want to go.

    This is a good point.

I always felt I was building a business from the first day.

I run it as my own business & pay corporation tax on the profits and income tax on the dividends and income I draw from the company, anyway there is no other (legal!) way I would want to do it...

In my opinion doing affiliate marketing is not a personal business, it's just like a comission based job that you do. But if you create your own products, sell them your self or also let others sell it for you is the real business.

Depends on your approach but most serious affiliates consider this a business and thats why they make alot of $$. If you approach it casually you may lack the seriousness to keep growing.

    Hey Shoyru

Affiliate business is generate traffic to a product or service. Thus you do get a business.

The question here is not a kind of activity you do (generating traffic), but whether you are doing everything yourself or you get a staff who are doing huge chunk of a job. If you do everything yourself - you created a job for you. If your staff are doing most of the job you get a real business.

    Regards
