It's true that SOI is easier, but it also depends on your angle and landing page. SOI isn't better than DOI 100% of the times, the offer itself and the way you promote it is more important.

Initially, we tried an approach like "Expert help to find the perfect deal". We did this because we thought that a simple search tool wouldn't be different than all the other sites out there. Well, the performance was terrible and we tried "Use the search below to find the perfect deal". Worked like a charm.

Then, in the page where people had to put their name, email and phone (optional), we used "Our team of experts will find your deal within 48h!". Poor performance. Then, we tried "Fill out the form below to be contacted by an expert". Better, but not good. Then we simply changed to "Sign up below to finish the process" and boom! Great conversion rate.

The lander itself was the same as well as the fields (we created it based on thsi concept: Mature dating online. Join thousands of singles now!), we just changed the headlines.
