UPDATE: Now At 137% ROI Facebook Ads To Teespring Campaign

I know a lot of people are doubters. I've read a lot online about how "this doesn't work", "that doesn't work", "you can't do that" blah blah blah. Instead of taking action, most will just try to come up with any excuse to not even attempt something.

Teespring campaigns on FB are super hot right now. I'm not the first to do them and I won't be the last, but these little babies WORK. You can direct link from Facebook Ads right to a teespring campaign.

I've got 248% ROI, $113.95 profit on this one campaign so far and it has 5 days left to run! I'm going to try to scale this even bigger now.

Here's my proof:

Earned so far:

Now most would stop there and pretend like it didn't cost a penny to earn that revenue. Most would just show you that and hope you didn't ask what it cost. Not me:

Spent so far:

To make money, you simply have to spend money. That's a basic rule of business that's been around forever. Buying traffic and sending it somewhere is the basics of what we do as affiliate marketers. The hard part is the techie side for some and the marketing side of others.

Bottomline, there is money to be made and it's up to you to make it. Nobody is going to make it for you.

EDIT: I calculated the ROI wrong in the first post. (Didn't have enough coffee). ROI is profit / cost x 100. Today my stats are like this:

Update: $94.35 Spent, $223.86 Earned

ROI: $129.51 / 94.35 = 137%

My original ROI was actually HIGHER at 248%. It dropped due to testing some new angles. I'm still pretty happy with 137% though. That means for every dollar I spent, I get my original dollar back and I get $1.37 in PROFIT on top of that. How many dollars would you put into something like that!

Does that $113.95 profit include what Teespring takes?

I've found that you can set it low and it doesn't really matter, when you sell more you get paid more anyway. I haven't played with that setting enough to worry about it yet. But if anyone knows for sure I'm all ears.

(Referring to the goal on the campaign set at 10 instead of like 100 or more so the revenue per sale goes up).

Oh and 2 more sold today since I posted this thread so my roi is and profit is actually higher then reported in the first post.

I sure see the potential with Teespring. I,ve took action and testing some campaigns as we speak. Got a few questions for you tough. How much did you spent before knowing it was a winner? What's your failed/winning campaigns ratio? Do you go after smaller demo reach (under 100k) or big ones (over 500k)?

    thanks!

I've tried a lot of ways:

1.) Dark news feed ads, (a bit of success)
2.) Right side ads only with 1 precise interest, (more success)
3.) Regular news feed ads tied to a page directly, (some success)

For success rate, I'm at about 1 out of 11 that actually profits nicely at the moment. A couple do OK but nothing major and the majority FLOP. I will set a fixed budget for testing initially and if I hit that without any sign of converting, I dump the campaign. The more I pump out the better my chances of finding a big winner. I've already done 4 new ones today alone.

For targeting, I mix it up. One campaign I'll do 1 precise interest only. Another I'll target one group only, another I'll target one page only. I've even split up my ads by gender and small age groups with custom audiences. (Facebook limited my ad creation for 24 hours after that one as I pumped out about 350 ads for 1 campaign).

The answer is there is no right answer unfortunately. There's no plug and play exact system that will work for every single one. It's all about testing, tracking, optimizing and then learning what works best in your niche. Some dark posts on news feeds work best on desktop, other's work way better on mobile only.

I am even experimenting right now with list building and t-shirts. (Why not if I know what niche the people are in, I can sell them MORE down the road this way.)

The amount is up to you. Sometimes I'll only do $5 if I have a lot of campaigns going.

You can tell pretty quickly what is going to work and what isn't.

There's no point in throwing money away for a week at something that is not converting.

How many designs have you tested all up, and how many before you found one that worked? I've tried 3, received heaps of clicks and no conversions yet...I feel like the designs are perfect for the niche I'm going for as well so not sure why I haven't made a single sale on anything >_<

eg. chose a cycling niche and went for a design that was really similar to one of the best selling tees on a separate website. Don't think they would be advertising it on Facebook so I doubt there'd be any competition. Maybe my description just sucks

1 out of 11 works for me right now. (works as in profits nicely).

If you're getting clicks but not conversions, it could be your ad copy that is misleading a bit.

I've tried quite a few things. I've recently learned that sports, tv shows, spencer's type party shirts etc seem to do best. Stay away from the Self-help stuff like "Namaste" or "Meditation, it's not what you think" total bombs with every method included getting page owners of large fan pages to promote.

I was also wondering if any of you could list some example copy of your ads and your teespring descriptions that have worked for you?

My fb ads usually on rightside:

Limited Time Offer - Click Here to buy your "Tshirt Name" before they are gone!
    (most successful copy so far)

And on the teespring page I keep it pretty simple.

Show your support for so n so buy this limited edition tshirt before time runs out.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

I am having success with this method, the only issue I am having is getting the volume of traffic. I have cranked my max bid and my budget and I have a great CTR (5 percent), just working out how I will get more of the volume. Hopefully by this time tomorrow it will be solved.

This is something I've been looking into for a couple of days and I really want to try this, but I also want to do my due diligence so I don't end up bombing.

I picked up a product about this on JVZoo a few days ago and the vendor recommended starting with $30/day ad budget and trying to sell 50 shirts. This might be a little too big for me. Maybe I will try the 10/10 campaign and see if that flies first.

    My question is this:

I currently have a fan page with about about 10,000 likes right now. What if I were to create a tee about that niche and then make a post to the page linking directly to the Teespring landing page? Then I could "boost" the post for $30 and get quite a bit of exposure. I've seen this done with images people created with some pre-sell text and a red arrow that points down to the link to the Teespring page, etc.

Do you think this would sell shirts? Or should I stick with the standard "right side" direct link ad?

And how about the news feed ad? I'm not quite sure how that works yet. I know that the news feed gets boosted so that people will see it, but will the people who see it have to be fans of my page or friends, or will it appear in any news feeds related to the niches I pick when I create the ad?

The product I bought was good as far as showing you how to set up a Teespring campaign, but it never really got into the way to set up the Facebook ads which was a bit disappointing.

      Hi Coach,

Would directing a FB Ad directly to your Teespring campaign on the Teespring site have a higher CPC (than say directing it directly to your FB Fan Page & then directing that to the Teespring site)?

A little update on this one, I really should have paid more attention to it before today.

    LOL

I'll see how many I can get in the next 24 hours. ROI is through the roof and I think I've got onto something pretty damn sweet with these things. (All learned by testing a million different ways to do it).

Anyhow, this is a campaign I launched TODAY for this very campaign:

I think I might do a couple more along this line and I'm going to try to scale some more with a couple more ideas, (not just t-shirts).

I can honestly say I've NEVER had this many conversion for this cheap. NEVER. My head is spinning with possibilities at the moment.

I did get some pretty cheap traffic though. My reach was too broad, perhaps (9mil). Maybe my design sucked too. I figured anything with extreme sports should work (ice climbing and stuff), but the one I picked was not as segregated as I wanted it to be.

Maybe we should have a challenge, pick the same niche, do our own designs and launch FB ads, see who gets the best results

Wow, amazing to hear...!! Thank you..!!

I'm not quite sure I understand what the idea is about setting a goal to sell so many before the orders go through, whether it's a high number or low..?

I guess related to the pricing you would get..

So what happens if people order and you don't reach your goal.?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8849607].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author PPC-Coach
The goal is just their way of saying, "you have to sell X number minimum" or they won't print and ship the shirt.

If people order and you don't hit your goal, you're out of luck. HOWEVER you can set the goal where ever you want, if you're close and above 10, then just email support there and ask them to reduce the goal. So in reality 10 is the magic number. It's possible. Check this out from a NEW campaign where I hit 10 pretty quickly:

The higher your goal though the bigger your margin and the more money you'll make. It's a tightrope walk with some campaigns. I launched a campaign with 50 as my goal and sold over 150. If I had set it at 100 I would have made quite a bit more.

I do this as well. I build fan pages and monetize them with shirts. The cool part is you can do giveaways and get people to share the stuff virally. Then boost the post to get even more traction.

It depends on the price I set and the goal. Typically $19.99 for a t-shirt and with hoodies I'm experimenting with different prices. The commission does go up as you sell more and hit more of their internal goals though. On one hoodie I had $15.99 commission on avg. On another t-shirt I had way less.

I see a lot of guys using real logos and they're nuts! You cannot use a logo or trademarked term on a shirt. You can modify things and make them not quite like the real logo though. I haven't heard of anyone getting burned yet for real logos but I wouldn't do them. For the name, you can probably get away with saying "are you a fan of Zorro" or something like that, but I'm not a lawyer.

Yes, I test custom audiences and precise interests then see which one works best.

          Cool, it' does work!

About giveaways...Do you wait til your goal has been reached before doing one? Or do you use it to reach it?...Cause i would think a giveaway will attract people who want to really win a shirt, not buy one :S

I would like to know some more stats please.

    What is the cost?
    What is your retail price($39.99?)?

What are your conversions from Facebook Clicks to Teespring Sales?

    -For Example: sample from screenshot

You show 40 clicks at a cost of $2.61/click for a total spent of $104.59.
-if your ROI is 100% that would make your sales $209.18
-10% conversion from FB clicks to Sales would mean 4 sales
    -Profit of $104.59/4 Sales = $26.15 Markup

Am I close? Could you please break it down a bit more?

I'm really excited about this. I see a lot of potential if the conversions to sales are that great!

    Thank You

You're close, but with Facebook some sales come from the link being shared too and people do buy more then 1 sometimes so you can't just go by the conversions column. (Also their conversion pixel does NOT fire everytime for some stupid reason).

My stats are all there, so you can do all the calculations from them, (as you have).

But like I said don't rely on their conversion pixel only. I've had cases where Facebook registered 1 conversion, I check the Teespring page and it showed 10 sales! So it means the link was shared, people bought without clicking the ad and/or someone bought more then one.

To clear up the confusion on profit per item... Regardless of goal... It's recalculated on the final sell number. Below is the email I received.

"As you sell over your goal, your profit margin increases which will be reflected when the campaign ends and you can request your final payout. Right now it is estimated that you will make: $xxxx.xx."

Any more questions happy to help.

$1,800 for about 2 hours of total work time is not bad at $900/hour.

The majority of this thread is people's concerns over the profit in each sale. Really it doesn't matter if its 1 dollar or 10 or 20... because you set the price and the volume is up to you. Takes about an hour to setup a campaign even if you take your time... if i sell thousand t-shirts and make only 1 dollar profit on each.. good return in anyone's books.

It reminds me of when new affiliates chase the big ticket affiliate CPS and wonder why they don't get the big cash.

Sell 500 items at $20 dollars or sell one person a $10k item. I know which is easier.

Great thread! I am intrigued to try this, but I am new to facebook ads and to teespring. Would someone kindly tell me what settings they used when setting up the FB ad, such as "What kind of results do you want for your ads"? I want to select website conversions, but I am not sure how to add the tracking pixel on the teespring website.

Also, did you create a page on facebook so the ad can show in people's news feed, or did you solely advertised on the side?

    Thanks

Hello - I'm running my first Teespring campaign along with my first Facebook Campaign. I have good click through rate for my ad but no sales yet. I'm direct linking to Teespring. Here are my results so far from Facebook.

My question is I have 13 clicks but only 3 to the Teespring website. Since I am direct linking, where did the other 10 clicks go? Also are you guys using CPC or CPM for bidding?

Thanks for any input you may have.

Agreed, the big ticket stuff has its place but the budgets required to make it work are a lot larger then the avg affiliate can afford.

The settings? Not sure what you mean there? I want conversions for my ads and I use their conversion pixel. To track it you have to send an email to their support to have that feature added to your account. I do both newsfeed ads and right side. Newsfeed seems to work best though.

The ones that are successful seem to be 100 to 400% ROI. I watch them pretty closely and I do manual day parting, (which sucks btw). I am looking at hooking up my account to a bid management program like Marin or Qwaya though now. (Hint, once you find WHEN people most you will double or triple your ROI).

I'm also experimenting with a lot more then just direct linking to teespring. (I hate not being able to monetize those people later, so I'm fixing that too).

Lots of great tests running as we speak!

Yes I put the price in most ads. I also say "Click Here For Details" in all ads. That keeps the like factor down. I think you have to be VERY clear on what exactly someone is supposed to do. Otherwise they see a neat shirt and just like it. Which is fine if you're building a page, but sucks for sales.

Getting page Likes is a good thing. Post, post, and post some more on that Page to keep people engaged and mix in posts with your shirts. You'll go from selling them 1 shirt 1 time to selling them 3 shirts and also monetizing them using other sources over the course a months if not years

Short term earnings are great, but I'm always looking towards long term revenue.

      Could be the following:
      • What does the design look like?
      • Which niche is it in?
      • What demogarphic is it for?
      • What type of targeting did you use on the ad?
      • How large is the target audience?
      • How unique is the shirt?
      • What type of ad is it?
      • What type of bidding is it?
      • What does the ad say?
      • What does the ad look like?
      • Is the niche very competitive?
      • What is the daily budget?
      • What color is it?
      • What time of day are you running it?

Say "I got 100 clicks and no sales", is fine but it's not nearly enough information to help.

That campaign is not dead yet. Maybe your margin is too small but IF you get a sale in 50 clicks it was lucky. You have to throw more traffic at the thing. (At the same time trying to be profitable.)

Challenges are fun, but everyone in the same niche is not good.

No you cannot, and this is a bad idea to pause and unpause because when you unpause it will accelerate your ad spend to ensure it spends it all in one day (if you budget is considerably underspent for the day)

I let mine run for a couple days, then I do a report on age/gender and other items to create other more profitable campaigns.

The first one is always my test one. I've had one where I cut out anyone over 55 and anyone under 24 and my ROI shot up through the roof! The older people were clicking but not buying and the younger the same. By running the reports and checking the demographics on conversions, (another vital reason to use their tracking pixel), I could target better and get a better ROI.

YOu can even direct link to teespring from Bing Ads and GOOGLE ADWORDS!!!

I do my own, but go on there and search for tshirt designs there's plenty. I'd just go with the ones who have solid ratings. Remember not every one will work. I know some "guru's" love to rig campaigns and make it look like they did ONE which blasted through wicked profits, but honestly that's b.s.

You will have failures. Anyone who says all their's work right away is full of it. Some can't be explained, they just plain ole' didn't work.

My niche is tshirts on Facebook.

Here's an update I just tallied up results for January so far. I'm by no means a big hitter in this but I'm pretty happy with it so far:

That's for all my campaigns this month so far. My goal is $10,000 revenue for January, (again I'm not a big dog in this, but getting there).

For that screenshot, do you have their conversion pixel installed on teespring? I know some say don't bother, but I do and it works. Try CPM on that campaign instead, see if that works. Your CTR is not bad but it's not stellar either. I posted the questions I would ask someone if they wanted to figure out why a campaign isn't working, it's in this thread...

Also, don't give up. Not every one works. I have launched over 65 this month alone and here's my results so far:

I HIT MY GOAL A BIT EARLY!

I set a goal of $10,000 revenue for the month of January, I hit it today. I'm pretty happy with that and now it's time to scale this stuff even MORE.

The best advice I can give is find a passionate audience and DO NOT just copy what someone else did. That's like standing in the Mcdonalds parking lot and selling cheeseburgers to people who just had 2 of them in the restaurant! BE ORIGINAL. Come up with unique stuff. The "spy" tools out there are fine and you can try but remember you've got a slim chance of getting any impressions if 100 of you are competing for impressions on Facebook. I think I posted this before but if it's like this:

98 people have a daily budget of $5
2 people have a daily budget of $1,000

Guess who Facebook is going to IGNORE?

Take action, tweak, test and do not give up.

Some nice info here - thanks.

Presumably your results are primarily from news feed ads (as opposed to side bar ads) and therefore you are creating a new page for each new campaign?

Just wondering PPC-Coach or anyone doing teespring..

I think it's great whatever people do, whether for profit or charity, but on a $15 teeshirt, wondering what the profit is for the seller.

I ask because the owner of the New England Patriots facebook page is selling the shirt on the below facebook fan page under the premise that $2 from every sale will be donated to the Progeria Research Foundation, related to Sam Burns.

Their slogan is: GO PATRIOTS! Do it for Sam Berns! One time.

This is kind of brutal to me, $2 for the Memory of Sam Burns and how much for the facebook person?

It's more like: Do it for Me (owner of facebook page)! One time.

Okay, this how a person makes something from facebook, I understand but...

The person doing that patriots page is doing a good thing. SEnding them to a page off facebook and did you notice the list building they're doing too? Great idea and people should be doing this too! (Me included!)

As for non-believers. I'm never shocked anymore. People online just doubt everything. Some prefer to pick apart everything and come up with excuses to not do it themselves.

Okay, I see that they don't have adwords conversion tracking feature in the dashboard. Its tough to promote without knowing what are the best performers!

How is mobile doing? Can you throw some light on age groups? Also, some info about tools/softwares which are helpful in the entire campaigning. hmm, too many questions!

      I agree and disagree TBH.

Yeah its good that they are, well we are assuming they are lol , paying over to charity however and I am sure I am not alone in this but this is just another gimmick to sell hoodies/tshirts. What backs it up is that there are posts every hour saying "Do It For Sam" etc. Thats the bit that gets me. Does it need sold that often using gimmick??

How do you connect facebook ad tracking with conversion tracking on teespring? I mean how to implement conversion tracking(teespring) in to facebook ad tracker?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8873252].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author PPC-Coach
I hope it's not a gimmick and that they're really giving some to charity. I've never done a charity one ever. I can ask the teespring dudes how they handle that though, they have a "certified chartiable" thing I've seen. Maybe they deduct it right away?

As for adwords, you have to email support and get them to place your pixel. It takes several days it seems. I wish they would add that like you can the facebook pixel. Mobile works. For age groups, do a report on gender and age, you'll see exactly what you should be targeting and what you should be eliminating from your targeting.

To get the Facebook conversion pixel placement to show, email support and ask for it to be activated.

I've seen some WSO's on this very method and man I can't believe some of the crap people put out there. Even ones that get wso of the day are complete fluff. The keys to success with this are:
    1. a passionate audience
    2. a solid design
    3. a properly setup ad campaign
    4. a good daily budget
    5. patience

    That's about it!

Oh and here's my payouts so far from teespring, (so you know I'm not blowing smoke about this stuff):

That's $11,626.90 so far in January. I have other campaigns running are not included in those numbers. I'm aiming for $20,000 revenue now for the month. I think I'll hit it as Facebook just bumped me to $1,500 per day in spend.

    Life is good.

      @FB Conversion pixel.
Teespring got an easy link in the dashboard where you can just keep the ID. No need to email support Just launched my first campaign, Will keep you updated!

      Thanks everyone!

      @PPC-Coach
I want to hit thanks 100 times for you! PMed mods to implement that feature in WF

Just a quickie, although I havent the time to look through the thread, ma bad, away to the casino with the missus, she likes the bingo and I the roulette lol

Anyways, do you direct link to the TS page or do you create an FB page and do the ads for likes? Or as I suspect, a mix of the 2 depending on the niche?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8873686].message }}

I do both. Direct link when I'm being lazy and don't feel like doing a lander. I'm also doing some stuff where it goes to my lander first then teespring after. Always testing new ways and funnels.

    A couple quick questions.

Do you setup a page for every niche so you can do newsfeed?

    CPC or CPM?

How large should the audience I'm targeting be?

I'd recommend taking a look at this page: Explore T-shirts, Campaigns and Designs | Teespring

This site is pretty cool too: Teeview | Teespring campaign viewer

This thread has given me motivation to get away from adsense! After daily google updates, and trying to keep on top of things, I guess its time to move on. Thanks for all the tips OP, do you recommend direct links to teespring to start with? Also how do you track the CTR and Conversions, as well as demographics? Using URL shorteners?

    Update of my campaigning.

There is 12 hrs time zone diff between the place where I live and US. I had to start the campaign late night and didn't get time to review data. Early morning looked into the data and made quick changes! By then the account almost lost $33+ without a conversion!

Within the next 1 hr I got 2 conversion from newly created ads! I had to stop the campaign in next couple of hours as its past 12:00 AM in the campaign geo location.

Day 1 result: 52+ USD spent with 2 sales or Optimized ads spend $17 with 2 sales. Looking forward for the day.

    Comments/suggestions are most welcome!

When doing teespring campings what do you do with VAT? I mean i'm a private citizen, I do not have my own firm so how can I pay VAT from facebook ads? Or do you specify that you do not post ads for bussines purposes?

Most IM'ers dont realise that this is actually a business and dont think about it.

In the UK we have to declare the income and the expenses in our annual tax return. VAT only comes into it if we sell more than around £80k. Once we do then its quarterly VAT returns.

So basically for VAT purposes unless you sell more than that I wouldnt worry about. When you do then keep all the invoices and reclaim everything.
