Pop Ad Traffic (PPV) - Thoughts?

Hi,

I'm working with an affiliate network that is pitching my website offer to one of their affiliates that they say has a good pop traffic source. They say my website would get around 2+ million views a day. I was never a big fan of pop traffic because I feel like it's not targeted traffic that is seeing my landing page, and it's just random.

I'm not saying I wouldn't get any leads, since I'm putting my landing page in front of 2+ million faces a day, but not sure how many of these leads will actually turn into monetizing customers. I could see the leads being better quality if the pops are being generated from websites that match up well with my niche, but if the websites generating these pops are for people who like "ties" and my website is selling "fishing rods"; are these leads even worth it?

But at the same time how good could this affiliate's pop traffic be? Can't I just go to a site like FullTraffic, LeadImpact, TrafficVance, etc or something similar and do the exact same thing?

I'm trying to talk to them to try to pitch my offer to affiliates that would use PPC (Google Adwords, Bing Ads, FB Ads, etc.), email marketing, or banner image ads because I feel these methods can be controlled better and bring in better targeted leads.

Does anyone have any experience with pop traffic? Is this something I should be willing to try from a merchant/advertiser standpoint, or are these leads I would receive from pop be very random and low quality?

I know when I see a pop ad I would say 99.9% of the time I immediately close it because it has nothing to do with what I'm looking for or doing. And I just don't want to have all these pop ads popping up on people's PCs and just stretching my bandwidth/server to it's limits.

Thank you!

Yeah you could and I imagine if the affiliate is running 'good' PPV traffic then it's from one of those. There are some other PPV networks with good quality traffic apparently, but people who know what those are don't share with others

      I'd be careful.

Yes, PPV advertising can reach an immense amount of people per day. But I'd be careful with some of the numbers that they're throwing at you. Also keep in mind that while many affiliates here use PPV advertising - they use it mostly for CPA. Meaning there is no credit card number that needs to be submitted.

That's not to say it's not possible. But i can tell you in my own personal experience that using pop-up ads / interruption marketing... it's very difficult to get people to submit a credit card number - Even if you capture their email and market to them after.

Plenty of people promote Clickbank/Weightloss/Wrinkles/Muscle/Credit Score offers all of which require credit card info

I'm aware of that and I'm one of those people lol. I'm just saying it can be much more difficult to sell those products vs. a CPA offer which is way easier to promote to such a market.

PPV can be excellent. It normally has the lowest cost options IMO, but like they said above you have to be careful.

1 - You have to make sure you are very targeted and your campaign is set up properly
2 - You have 5 seconds to grab the attention and make them click on your ad before closing and resuming to the desired page.

That being said you need to make sure that your landing page is worth-while because after all it is just a pop up ad ...

    Bad example:
Targeting walmart.com and offering a $1000 gift card pop up
    -why is this bad:
because everyone knows that the $1000 gift card is just an annoying ad

    Good Example:
Targeting some website selling Samsung 55inch Tv's for $1999 with your pop up ad displaying "STOP Why buy from an untrusted site and pay more? Amazon has this same TV for $1799 + peace of mind purchasing continue to Amazon now!"

I hope you can see the differences.

    Thanks for the replies!

Yes, the offer is a CPA email lead generation; so that's good at least.

I can see these pop ads working if the website generating these pops relates to my website. For example, if the pops are being generated from sites where people like "fashion" and I'm selling "tires" I don't believe these pop ads would do very well. However, if my selling "apparel" I can see these pops doing better since there is a better relation between the sites.

How detailed can you target with these pop ad networks? I know you can select different countries, but can you get more detailed in selecting traffic from specific niches? For example; retail, travel, hotels, etc...

    Thank you!

You really need to do some research.

In PPV you have "targets" rather than keywords or niches.

So you target by choosing a keyword or a URL that you would like your ad to pop up for.

I agree, there are to many different networks that all work differently. Different ad sizes, different options, different initial deposits, ect ...

What I can't seem to understand is exactly what you are trying to do...

Do you have your own product/service?

Ok, thank you! I haven't joined any of these PPV networks yet; so I guess I'll see how to set up these campaigns once I have an account with them.

Besides LeadImpact, TrafficVance, MediaTraffic; are there any other good PPV networks that I can look into?

    Thank you!

Focus on LeadImpact, and TrafficVance. 50OnRed if you want to scale. The rest of those PPV networks have been notorious for sending bot traffic and just blowing people's money.

Great way to scale! Most people try to pump more money to it and it just overkills the campaign. Using other networks is much more effective!

I was taking a look at LeadImpact and TrafficVance; how exactly does the URL targeting work?

Would I be able to list any domain on these websites, and then my popup ad would show if someone visits this website? Or does this only work with the domains that LeadImpact/TrafficVance have within their network?

    Thank you!

Any website on the internet, the user just has to have the networks adware installed

        Ok, thank you!

This seems like it would be a great method of advertising because I can then target my competitor's URL.

However, I guess the "big unknown" is not knowing how many users have the network's adware installed and also are interested in the services that my competitors and myself offer. But I guess it's definitely worth testing out.

        Thanks!

Don't quote me on these numbers but I believe LeadImpacts numbers are around 3 million users.

Main demographic is lower income women - (I believe most middle aged)

Loans & insurance are two niches that perform particularly well. But that's not to say there isn't traffic in other niches. I've gotten plenty of traffic in gaming, health & fitness / diet & weight loss and some other ones. I'm sure there's other people who have been able to have success in other niches (dating, beauty, gossip etc.)

It is nice in the sense that you can pop up over your competitors but also keep in mind that it's interruption marketing and your popup needs to stand out and really have something that people want to take action on. There's lots of PPV guides on here for things you can use to effectively do that.

Yeah Leadimpact is really a great source for traffic. Easy to get, reach many people around the world. The only downside is the upped deposit recently but that's it.

PPV / CPV traffic can be very targeted. But with 2 million views would be make me question.

It is your offer you should have to talk them out of it. Just tell them you don't want it, and you're not going to pay for leads from PPV. Put your foot down lol
