How I Made 126% ROI with Teespring and Facebook ads.

Hey guys!

I was reading on this forum how to make money with Teespring and i didnt believed it at first! I gave it a try and i am so glad i did. I just want to share with you what I've learn and hopefully give you the boost to get started too! Below is a screenshot of my earning with only 1 shirt. It has still one day left to the campaign so I'm definitely looking to sell some more.

This is ONLY one of my campaign! On this one i'm making about 17$ per shirt, you can see on the facebook ads that im spending about $7.4 per conversion. But also, some people will buy 2 shirts or will click on my link without clicking on my ads. So my profits per shirt is in fact higher than that.

The success recipe is pretty simple:

You find a niche with passionate people. Right now, you see a lot of sports team, Superbowl, guns regulation, Pitbulls! Any of those are being use right now because people are passionate about those subject. People will buy with their emotion, not their brain.

Once you pick a niche you need a winning design. You probably should outsource your design unless you are very good with photoshop. Your shirt needs to look professional if you want anybody to buy it. You are looking around 10-15$ per shirt for a quality design.

Select your audience by age, sex, interest and location. Than split test everything. Different ad copy, different audience, different picture. Remember, not every campaign will be winner. Ride with your winner until the end.

Rinse and repeat.

I hope that this will give some of you the motivation to get started!

    Alex,

Another great post...can't thank you enough for sharing!

Couple quick questions if I may..?

    * What was your initial budget when you started?
    * How much would you say is a good ad budget when first starting out?

    Thanks,

    Ray

I don't have a budget at ALL to invest in Facebook Ads, but could try with making a Facebook fan page or something. I would have to study and make images and see if I can do the first few sales for "free", as in time-investment pay and see what happens before I expand to paid ads.

      My question is this...

How will you drive traffic to the fan page in order to get those first few sales?

I ask because, I'm in the same boat...don't have ANY FUNDS ATM to invest in ads on FB!

You are more than welcome! I usually tell people that 500$ is a good starting point.

Sure that can work as well!

Example would be putting the price of the shirt on the ads or not. changing the color of the background. Different shirts on the ads... you want to be eye catching! It's all About sales!

you could message other people to join your page or invite your friends. if you post interesting thing, people will start sharing your post on their own timeline. Also posting on other pages is great to drive traffic.

Thanks, and is there any difference between setting the obj to "website conversions" vs "getting clicks to website"

Does it help with lowering your CPC? And are you using OCPM?

Hi! Great post, I have several campaigns ready now but I don't understand something..

When you want to create a conversion tracking pixel, how do you verify it?

I have this trouble in my Facebook ads:

When I want to create a conversion pixel for some campaign and put the link of my campaign I receive that message. It's strange, because I do everything that this tiny tutorial from teespring request:

Youre doing nothing wrong. Your pixel get verified when you someone checkout through your advertising. Just wait for your first sale.

Congrats on your success and earnings! I'm watching a ton of videos on youtube and learning a lot regarding Teespring and FB.

Can you still be profitable by using Teespring ads only without a fan page/fan base? I hear different opinions that you can. Just curious.

And can you do newsfeeds without a fan page?

Split-test as many pictures as you can. Not more than 10 at a time though. Furthermore, it is the picture that determines the ROI of your campaign.

Newsfeed needs a fanpage, you can advertise without a fan page but only on the right side.

I've been doing a lot on teespring recently.

Been having some success with google ppc, not so much with fb though

One question with your targeting, do you just target interests that are related to your shirts? Anything particular about your targeting techniques you think contributed to your success?

Thanks a lot for this post

I use age, sex, interest and location. Split test everything. I try different design, not everything will work first time.
If you have a solid design and a passionate market, than you are at the marketing step. Try different ads image, different copy and split test everything. Remember that not every shirt campaing will work!

you need to input a sequence of 13 numbers in your teespring campaign. if you open your facebook ads dashboard, click on conversion tracking on the left. Than click view pixel code. A window will pop up. on the 4th line you will see this:

      fb_param.pixel_id = "00000000000"

copy only the number, thats your tracking code for teespring. put those numbers on your shirt campaing, you should have a tracking code link to click on your teespring dashboard, if you dont email teespring support they will add it.

Put an ad on odesk or elance. try a few different freelancer and keep the best one. you should pay around $15-$20 per shirt.

I gotta say I had my doubts about Teesprings. But I thought why not give it a go.

I started my first campaign on Sunday and I'm AMAZED. I hit my target of 100 (I'm a 100+ now) in 2.5 days with revs hitting almost $3000. I still have 4.5 days left to go.

And, I made some stupid errors like text on the back of the t-shirt. That's eaten into my profits and it doesn't add any value to my customers.

My fan-page has over 1000+ likes and I've already got the next design ready after feedback from peeps who liked my page.

    This stuff works - PERIOD

If you use manual CPC you will have a lot more control on your expenses. OCPC maximize the click until youre all spend out. SO when the cost of the click goes up in the late afternoon, you ride with them and ends up spending more per conversions.

But for your traffic problem, It could be a lot of things: Audience Size, CTR, daily budget particulary When using Optimized bid, facebook will spread your spending over time.

What is your fan page about?

are you created a fan page that have a same niche with what you targetting? example if you want to advertise your NBA fan shirt, then you created a fan page of NBA?

It could be luck but I think it's down to planning.

I picked a trending niche and designed a t-shirt that was very funky.

Then I sent the "fans" that link. The sales have tapered a bit now.

It wont give you more sales, it is only what they will use to track your goal. conversion or website click. I always use conversion and use the tracking pixel to find out which ads convert and which doesnt.

That's a terrible oCPM. You need to test different images and bring your CTR up.

For newsfeed ads, a CTR around 10% is not unusual. Especially, when the niche is "trending" and the targeting selected by you is very specific. If my campaign has a CTR lower than 3-4%, I pause it.

Although, and the end of the day it's about ROI and not CTR. So if you are making profit then that's what matters.

      No kidding...

Get real, if you want something from someone who has talent you need to pay them real money... don't know what it is you want but any custom design that requires a drawing of some kind you need to be at least in the $100 - 200 range..

if you just want clip art and some type to go with it for a tee spring product for example you can do that yourself..

yes, Teespring will automatically adjust as if your original goal was 40 items.

For goal drop, normally They will reduce your sales for around 5 -20 shirts.
I did call them, teespring said they will act like your goal is 10...they need to drop enough number of sales to balance the money.

Not exactly. You will get paid for all 40 shirts based on the cost basis of your goal (in this case 10). On top of that you will get a bonus for the 30 shirts that exceed your goal. That bonus is about 75 or 80% of what you would have made had you set your goal to 40 to begin with. But again, the bonus is only for the shirts that exceed your goal.

Here's an example for a 2-color basic tee selling at $19.99.

Goal of 50 with 50 sales: $10.74 profit per tee ($536 total profit)
Goal of 200 with 200 sales: $12.44 profit per tee ($2487 total profit)
Goal of 50 with 200 sales: $2352 total profit (see explanation below)

      Difference in profit per shirt: $12.44 - $10.74 = $1.70
      Bonus factor: 80% of $1.70 = $1.36

      So put that all together...

Goal of 50 with 200 sales:
      Base Earnings = $2148 (200 shirts x $10.74)
      Bonus Earnings = $204 (150 shirts x $1.36)
      Total Earnings = $2352 ($2148 + $204)

    Some questions:

How do you scale this thing? For example, if you are making $400 for every $100 spent. Then how do you scale it to $4,000?

I see raising budget drastically increases your CPC ( about 60% avg. ). How you cope with that? Or any specific strategy.

    • Just an idea as I am one of the new ones here - but what about creating separate ad campaigns?

For example split the total budget of $1000 into ten separate campaigns, each with a daily budget of 100. (10 x $100)

If anyone can confirm this as a good idea or correct me I´d appreciate it!!

split test shirt color, advertising image, ad copy, audience.

raising budget doesnt raise your CPC, it is you CTR that will influence your CPC. Budget is just what you allow to be spend over a day. To scale things up, you need a bigger audience or more shirts

not neccessarly cuz your CTR will dictate how much you pay per click, if you multply your ad, you will show the same ads to the same people wich will result in a lower CTR and higher CPC.

I've been scrambling youtube and the internet for the past weeks to learn about teespring and so far almost all teespring case studies that are really successful occured in 2013 until about April 2014. I have NOT seen successful teespring case study after June 2014

Is this thing still working? Facebook ad interface has changed too. There's no "precise interest" now. Can you shade some light please. Are you still running teespring successfully? (is it better or not since the first time you started?)

I've created 9 campaigns so far. 1 campaign is still running with 0 sale so far (about 1 or 2 days left). 7 campaigns fell flat with ZERO sales. And 1 campaign had 1 sale but was suspended on the second day of campaign due to trademark. I spent about 50 dollars so far of FB ads and countless hours of research with ZERO sales... *frustrated*

Find better designs or better niches - you need both for a successful campaign because I see great designs targeting the wrong niche or audience.

        Hi smodha,

Sounds like trends is working out great for you. You should write up a report nad sell it, if it doesn't affect your personal strategy.

As far as earning $14K but $8k/$7,400 was profit, so are you saying you spent around $6k in advertising? Just trying to understand.

If so, that's a pretty big ad budget you'd need for just a couple weeks but, I'd take ~$8k profit any day, even if I had to spend $6k to get it lol

$14,000 is revenue - this doesn't include my base costs which is about $19.99/hoodie.

$8,000 is gross profit with $600 expenses = $7,400 profit.

You cannot target people that like specific page with standard targeting on facebook. You need to use a facebook scrapper. Here's a link to a Video Tutorial i made that will show you step by step how to do it.Beginner guide on how to create a Teespring Campaign - Teespring Shirts -

guys, by showing off your numbers you guys are not giving any real value. Your actually hurting people that need to make money and are thinking facebook and TS is a gold mine, making them invest money they don't have. IMO give better value and stop telling dreams. Make your posts valuable to others. Just IMO.

LOL - I'm not asking anyone to do anything. We live in a free world (well at least I do).

If you don't have money to invest in your business then go get a job because TeeSprings is a REAL business. Not all my campaigns are successes - some do fail but I carry on going and make the next one better.

I didn't create the OP but it contains everything you need to start making money with TS/FB PPC. If you don't believe that then you are the one who's dreaming...

BTW, most people say that 20-40$ per design is enough to test and know if you've got a winner...But is it really?

So those who have success with teespring and fb ads, how do you spread your test budget? 20$ on 1 image/description? 20$ on 2 images & description?

I am asking because it got me thinking that if a winning design is tested with a bad newfeed ad or a bad text above it...or by using the wrong objective, then 20$ is just too low to properly test and therefore equal a failed campaign.

Or is it that nomatter what the image looks like, the text says...If the design is a winner, it'll make sales anyway?

Teespring is still working. I've got a couple campaigns that are absolutely killing it as we speak and I'm doing better now than I've ever done. The key is to build a page of hungry buyers and market the shirts aggressively to them. Buying likes from Fiverr won't get you buyers. It'll get you fake likes. I'm buying likes from Facebook for a penny per like. I've got 2,000 coming in per day right now and a lot of them are engaging with the page.

If you're running campaigns that are getting hit with trademark claims, you're in the wrong market. I'm guessing sports teams? Those markets have been hammered by every marketer out there. Look for niches that haven't been hammered and you'll do much, much better.

Yeah, sports team. How do you get 2,000 likes a day?? Can you share how you did it??

Sure...I created a handful of catchy memes that really resonate with my target audience. I then created a LIKES campaign using those memes. Once the campaign started running, I turned off the ads for the memes that were too expensive and fine-tuned the ad copy for the ones that were getting inexpensive likes.

I got the first couple thousand or so likes for around a penny each. The cost has since gone up to $0.02 to $0.03 per like, which I'm still more than happy to pay. I've been running the ad for 10 days now and have nearly 10,000 likes. Total cost so far: Just over $200 bucks.

The nice thing is I now have a targeted group I can advertise to with my next shirt that isn't available as an interest in Facebook targeting. The $200 I've spent so far will be more than recouped in added shirt sales.

Creating your own interest-based group that is not available on Facebook. That sounds brilliant! Thanks for sharing man. Do you have any case study videos or whatnot on teespring I can learn from man?

No, I've tossed around the thought of creating something, but I'm far too busy with all of the other projects I've got going on to actually do it right now...
