I'm currently trying to save up some start up capital. My goal is to save up enough to start off with a $1000 dollars. Is this enough to realistically find a few profitable campaigns that will make me my money back?

I also plan on buying Chad Hamzeh's Traffic Blackbook 2.0 to learn the ins and outs of CPA traffic generation.

How would you recommend I spend the $1000? Is it realistically enough?

I would go with either TrafficVance or Lead Impact

I'd say $1000 is a good start, it's impossible to predict on how long it will take before you turn around a profit. Other things to take into consideration is expenses like hosting and domains.

Do you have any prior experience? Do you know which traffic source(s) interest you?

I've tried my hand in free marketing techniques but I didn't really have the patience for it because it took so long to see decent traffic. I figure paid marketing will get me to where I want to go faster. I've been thinking about plunging into paid CPA marketing for a while now but didn't have the balls to do it but recently I figured....what the heck, and go for it.

Worst case scenario I lose a $1000 dollars and learn from it. Best case scenario, I make a profit and scale it up to make even more and possibly start the beginning of the life I've always dreamed about. With that said, I know that even with paid marketing it is going to take some time and patience to get to where I want to go, I just feel that i'll get there quicker this way.

And as far as traffic sources...I'm open to suggestions, I was thinking about starting with BING.

Your start capital is relative. If you start with Bing and stay with the 5 cent minimum bid you can test 10 CPA campaigns for $100. (200 clicks per campaign)

Focus on a 10 specific niches and set your Bing keywords on exact and phrase.

        I feel your pain Chris,

I've also have the same feelings towards free advertising strategies and have literally spent the last 3/4 years getting my head around it and it's barely given me a return on investment.

I think it's much more wise to invest money into something that will give you a result quickly because it will allow you to save time and energy as well as teach you what works and what doesn't.

It's what i've realised and why i've now decided to focus my efforts into the paid traffic route. I'm still a complete beginner but i'm probably sure it will serve me better results in the long term.

I still won't forget the free traffic methods, but I think that will only become effective once i've tested stuff using the paid methods.

By that point, I will have landing pages that are well optimised as well as have a thorough idea of the type of market i'm dealing with.

    Hey Chris,

Looks like you've had a variety of answers here. I personally started off with about $1000 to test with but you need to spend it somewhat-conservatively. I've seen people just blow through 2k+ and spend it on about 10 campaigns!

    This is what I'd do.

    1. Sign up with 50onred - $500 minumum. LI & TV are both 1k minimum right now so 50onred would be a better start imo.
    2. Sign up to some good CPA affiliate networks, maxbounty, peerfly, wolfstormmedia are some good ones.
    3. Start testing CPA campaigns - split test between 1 landing page & direct linking. Have a $20 budget for each one.
    4. Sign up to a paid affiliate forum, (Im with affplaybook) and post a 'follow along' there so you can be guided through the process until you make it successful.

    All the best

$1000 is enough to be able to test a few campaigns for most types of traffic, whether it'll be enough for you to be able to build a profitable campaign is a different question. Having someone there to push you in the right direction minimizing mistakes and loss helps though.

    @Mateenyall

thanks for sharing... I did not know that there are paid aff forum out there...

however the affplaybook is so expensive... but I think it is very worth it membership. I saw the small video and I can tell it has everything that is needed to be successful.

$1000 can be very good budget if you focus on one trafficking method. don't just give up after you lose $200 and head over to some other paid traffic source.

test your campaigns, tweak your landing pages. this forum is really a source of great ideas and helful people who can help you to reach your goal...and when i say that, i mean - read posts from a trusted warriors. it is more useful than some BS cheap ebooks. you can learn a lot more by following greedy, ppc coach, william, kenster and similar guys, then if you are constantly buying ebooks.

like mateenyall said, find a good aff forum. read, test, share results and thought with like-minded people.

i would go into media buying for the start or even ppc if you have any experience. ppc is very hard but it is not a rocket science. first i would recommend to read

    - adwords for dummies
    - sams teach yourself google adwords

then head over to cashvertising which is the most inspirational book for marketing, period!

if you need more information, read 101 landing page optimization tips, it is on the forum somewhere.

don't be afraid to ask for help. also if you go for media buying i suggest chad hamzeh "traffic blackbook" as a great source of information. otherwise, get into cpa superstars (kenster and william souza) or william's paid marketing coaching.

greedy's reports are also a good way to start. not to forgot to mention ppc coach forum

You can also start with 50 on Red for $500, or Media Traffic for $200

Traffic is not as good on MT, but I have found it has gotten better recently

    Many people will say yes.

    I will say no.

You have to look at it like getting a career. If you want a career/business in online marketing, you've got to have a heavy investment in it - with time and money and plenty of it.

If you want a career as an office PR manager or a video game developer, its likely you'll have to invest in an education to get you there. A college bachelors degree at minimum usually. That can be anywhere from 5 - 50000 dollars, or more, realistically.

You can't shy away from the fact that just because its an "at home job", it is still a business, and you can't be afraid to invest all that you can into it.

Bare minimum for a testing and rotating basis (spending all, then rotating the cash back in as you get paid), would be around 2-2.5k.

You'll be golden around 10k ready to go. It's worth the investment. Sell a car, rent out a room in your house, sell all your games or things you just don't use and put it towards your business.

$1,000 is a good budget for a start only if you are going to do the job yourself.

If you start outsourcing, soon you would have paid for charges and cost of labour unknowingly that won't give you the value for your money.

Think about it, if you are to create a site, integrate follow up system, drive traffic to it using SE, videos and others and if you are to outsource these projects.

I was thinking of a budget around the same, although after what Justin has just said I may be rethinking (more on that in a minute).

If someone did have a $1000 budget, how long could one expect that to last?

Taking PPC for example, at .20 a click, that would get us 5000 clicks, for a newbie do people think we could be in profit by that point? Just seems like if you're not making profit then you don't have the capital to reinvest and then ultimately scale.

Justin, do you specialise in CPA? How many campaigns would you say a newbie should test?

      Thanks

Test as much as you can afford. Put $250 - 500 into smaller more targeted campaigns as a test. The more broad you target, the more you'll have to invest. It's also unlikely that you will find 20 cent clicks on 1st tier traffic unless you already know what you are doing.
