My Teespring Testing Results. Fail?

My first time testing a Teespring campaign. I tested with a minimal budget. Be warned, budget goes very fast! Start very low and go from there.

So here's what happened. There was big news a couple days ago, very hot trend so I thought what the heck, give it a shot. My design is definitely out of the box thinking, but apparently not good enough to buy. I laser targeted one fan page of over a million and something fans, but still didn't get a conversion. Call to action was good with scarcity. The good news, I got 52 likes and one share and 9 friends. But like I've mentioned before regarding IM. Getting conversions are HARD.

So below here are my stats in the attachment.

Tell me what you guys think and what can I do to get better?

I think one of the factors affecting Teespring sales is whether the design is 'shirtable' or not. In other words, it might be a topic which gets people's attention - but will they wear something with that message?

Makes perfect sense. It was a good test regardless. And it's quite possible I set the goal too high at 53. I notice a lot of ones that banking hard cash have the goals set at 20 or a little lower.

What's the point of having a sig if no one buys from you?

Yeah that's not a good campaign. You need much better CTR and lower CPC to make Tees profitable.

Been wondering how you do better targeting. Are you talking about some software?

Giving up after 51 clicks is the issue.

    How are you bidding btw?

I was bidding at CPC. I laser targeted a major company on a fanpage. But I think I still went way too broad, over 1.5 million on a major fan page. My $10 budget was gone in 10 minutes. I used Newsfeed ad with a fan page of 3 likes which went up to 11 likes. Got plenty of high five comments but no sales.

My set goal was to sell 53, maybe too high? It was a hot trending topic for the week. Shocked I didn't sell any. It got a ton of views and a couple shares as well.

Anyway, here was my design. Maybe too much competition? I didn't see anybody hitting this so I hopped on it as a test.

Any feedback would be appreciated of where I went wrong.

You have to remember people buy from emotion.
For example this pitbull hoodie campaign. Limited time Pit bull Shirt | Teespring
This group is not only passionate about their pits but they take great pride in owning
one since they have always been looked down upon by society as mean evil
        dogs.

Also keep in mind that even if they are passionate about whatever niche, your shirt or message still has to be wearable.

Maybe this will help, people love to show off/ feel cool/ and need to belong. So this pitbull group now belongs to a group of like minded who have a limited edition hoodie that no one else has access to. (unless they print one themselves ) Anyway hope that was helpful.

        Peace!

Makes perfect sense. Thanks Ricardo. All feedback and criticism is where we learn from our mistakes.

    Couple things:

When I see those two thumbs I think of the phrase "This kid _______". Or "This girl ______". Or "This guy ______". So I read it as "This kid/guy/girl doesn't like smoking." Now I think that this is probably a prevailing opinion in the US, making it not a good selling point. The beauty behind controversial topics is that it upsets some while exciting others. However, I think in the example that you've described (where CVS has decided to no longer sell tobacco products as it isn't consistent with their brand as a "health and wellness store"), I don't think anyone feels to strongly about it.

Here's an example, you make a shirt that says "I Hate Communism". Now I hope a lot of people agree with you, but no one feels particularly strong about it (in this case, because it doesn't apply to us).

Feel free to disregard that poor example.

Furthermore, don't use white as the base color. That may make it cheaper, but white just comes across poor. Consider black or even red and invert those colors (obviously not the red if that's the color of the shirt).

Final thought, I have seen a number of people have success with putting a very small portion of the shirt on the front pocket, then the rest on the back. Maybe push the "no smoking" symbol to the front pocket, then push the "CVSquitsforgood" onto the back... maybe very high on the top. The thumbs are a bit gimmicky to me, but that's just my opinion.

Take or leave any of this, just thought I'd chime in.

    Cheers,
    Ben

Edit: Just an additional thought. I know this has been in the news lately, but you're designing a tee shirt off of a business move from a drug store...? Stop and think that one through. That'd be like me buying a shirt complaining that Phillips 66 doesn't have diesel fuel (no idea if that's true or not). Not to shoot you down, but I think if you stuck with this "topic", no matter how good the design is, it'll be a tough sell.

Cheers back. And no, I'm not taking it as a negative in any way. It's good constructive criticism well needed. Now I have a much better understanding. Agreed on the white T-Shirt. Tried on black T-shirt, and couldn't read the wording so I was left with the worst option using the white color.

At least I was smart enough to test small with $10 and not hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Thanks for your input Ben. Agreed with everything you said.

        Ok, here is the thing.

With Teespring on Facebook the 2 main things to focus on are:

Low cpc = laser targeting your facebook audience

        and

        Split testing the T-shirt design

get these items correct and you should have a winning campaign.

So fans of dark side of the moon by Pink Floyd
then split test 20 different designs of t-shirts.

Place the conversion pixel at Teesprings end and for god sake track the demographic and your off to the races.

        peace

I don't want to be negative, but seriously. Take a look at the website t-spring.
You have all the information there, very easy to follow and they have great support. If your not even able to find this easy stuff on your own, I'm not sure how you are going to market the shirts, witch is a harder task
