What Do You Think of This Idea?

A friend of mine owns a restaurant/ nightclub. He has been offering free wifi to his customers. When anyone wants to use the free wifi they first get sent to a landing page with local ads on it that he sold to surrounding businesses. He says it doesn't make him much but it covers the cost of the internet. He is thinking about switching from local ads to affiliate/CPA offers because he wonders if he can make more money from it. He asked me about but I do offline and know zip about CPA. The best I could tell him is that the traffic would be free but the market is small and he would need some well targeted offers to convert. What do you all think? Thanks.

    I think it's a pretty good idea.

    Every time I connect to Starbucks' wifi and get sent to their landing page it always dons on me that they are probably making a boatload of advertising money from all the people that get sent there across all their locations.

    Like you said, though, the hardest part will be finding the best targeted offers to have on your friend's page

    It is worth a shot, think what time of day people go there, and what type of people... things like this would determine what offers to test first for me.

    It'd be good to try. But you would need to run this through the network first since all the registrations would be coming from the same ip.

    Have them sent to a page requesting their email address to use the wifi, and at the bottom of the email capture box have a link that bypasses this but in very small text. You will collect a shit ton of emails this ways.
