Media Buys - Can you do it on a Budget?

Media buys are sometimes touted as being the traffic generation method of the 'big boys'.

Is there an effective path for the beginner here? Pinpointing the target market is essential. Ascertaining age, gender, income etc. Quantcast.com can help to find targeted and matching websites, by demographic. With media buys, details and pre-planning are all important.

SiteScout has been mentioned as a good place to start. I guess it is all about testing and tweaking but how to choose between banners, network ads, display ads or text ads?

Any expert tips on media buys would be appreciated.

Here is what I do when I want to do a bit of Media Buying on a budget. Works so well as well.

Lets say you are in the business of selling Iphones with an Amazon review site. This is just an example, it could work in any niche.

You should then search on youtube for people doing videos on Iphones. Search terms like

    Iphone Review
    Iphone Unboxing

work well. Then, use SOCIALBLADE to check how many views that video is getting on a daily basis. If it is getting a bit of traffic, contact the video owner and ask them to put a link to your website in there description if they dont have one. Offer them around $20 or more if you think it would be worth it.

This works well if you target young kids because there eyes just light up at the prospect of $20 for adding a link to your website. Make em feel like they are a top class businessman and they will never turn you down

It all depends on the budget.. to get into it good, you do need a budget, but for $1000 you can normally break into it

BuySellAds can be used pretty cheaply in many cases.

As for a course. I like Charles Kirkland's Media Buyers Association.
