Wordpress as a landing page?

Was wondering if any of you guys use Wordpress as a landing page? I mean, from what I gather to get a good QS you need Privacy Policy, Ts & Cs, About, Contact, etc....and content!

I can put together a wordpress blog in about 5 minutes. I upload a nice premium theme and tweak the graphics, maybe 20 more minutes. Let's say it takes me an hour even. I can either write or pay for articles - 5 good enough?

I can hand code html and CSS too but I find Wordpress is great. Or is it overkill for a landing page?

Wonder too if it would be good to submit a link to some Social Media sites and RSS aggregators to help QS?

Anyone have any thoughts?

I know people that are doing great with wordpress as landing pages. You can get very good QS with them.

Just make sure that every link in your site points to the CPA offer and that you have the blog optimized. Sitemap, permalinks etc...

    Thanks Marian

Yes, I already know how to SEO optimize my blogs, no worries there. Just wondering compared to creating "simple" html pages which load a lot quicker as opposed to blogs that require databases etc.

I like the sound of "very good QS"

    Cheers

I use Wordpress almost exclusively for my landing pages. I second the great quality score. I get a QS of mostly 10 when I use Wordpress. And hey its quick to put together as well.

    Hey guys, thanks

Was wondering, I'm planning on creating my first WP site as a landing page and wondered if this setup sounds good, or if I'm missing anything, please feel free to chime in:

(btw, the idea is to use it for Adwords/Search...not sure if I'll direct link in the Content/Site Placement network)

    1) I plan to have the homepage as the "lander"
    2) I was going to upload 5 articles - short, about 250 words, but unique and relevant (mainly for QS)
    3) I'll add an image or 2 that "pops", some big "click here" buttons kind of thing...all above fold
    4) If I get an auto-responder I'll have an email optin form plugin (that's after testing I think)
    5) All the Contact, Ts&Cs, Privacy, About pages

Is that enough? Am I missing anything? Do I need that many articles...more?

    Thanks again

Also, was planning on using this theme - WooThemes Demo but with strong calls to action! ie I'll edit it a bit but I want to crank these out if I'm doing multiple offers / LPs per day)

For those using wordpress for your landing pages, what themes are you using? Are they free themes that you modify to work as a landing page or are you buying premium themes already designed to look like landing pages?

Working for a lead generation marketing firm, we use Wordpress as well for some of our landing pages. I find it takes some work to modify the templates if you are really picky, but there are so many free templates out there you can modify that buying one isn't really necessary in my opinion.

If someone could create a WSO on using Wordpress for creating landing pages I would buy it ASAP.

Well, there are several out there.....I feel mine is very effective and it won't cost you a fortune either.

It's also nice if you plan on building any type of traditional "minisite" salesletter type of site.

The link is in my sig below. Worth a look...

I agree with PPC-Coach regarding the links to your CPA offers...I wonder if Marian meant DON'T link to all your CPA offers

Also is it a good idea to NOT let Google et al index your site to keep it out of the SERPs or is it better to let it get indexed so that it appears to be more than just a landing page site?

For example, maybe submitting the feed to a bunch of RSS aggregators, maybe a few social sites (with automated tools of course to make it a 10 minute job)?

    Thoughts?

    Quality Score: 10/10 <----

its a WP blog, i made the template myself with artisteer. Key is to use pages and for the landers do NOT use the WP blog typical stuff like "recent posts", comments...etc..etc.. I hand-edited my template so the pages actually fit "landing page standards" and i removed the sidebars if a static page is displayed.

Note how i also have terms, contact us, privacy in the menu.

You also have about us, contact us, privacy policy and terms and conditions. They love that stuff. You can do it like you did in modifying wordpress OR skip wordpress and build the site yourself with those 5 pages, (including the index page). Landing SITES work, not landing pages anymore.

What I meant by that is, every creative & links in posts should go to your CPA offer...Don't send them to other sites were you could loose them.

I've done this a couple of times (not for CPA offers) and didn't got slapped.

I see what you mean Marian. Yeah, if links are placed strategically then it sounds like a good idea. Calls to action I reckon are key.

Thanks GeorgeR for sharing your link, that looks like a perfect example of using WP as a landing page. Of course squeeze pages are good too, not sure which type I'll go for as they look a little different.

    Thanks Minisite Nerd.

Just looked at GeorgeR's page and thats exactly what I mean, the images and the text links in the article all point to the CPA offer.

I would even take it a step further and add a traffic regenerator where you can offer them another offer or to opt-in for something.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[868016].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author promo_guy
Do you know of any traffic regenerators that you wouldn't mind sharing? Do you mean offer/url rotators?

I plan to use double-opt ins as part of my marketing campaign but only after I've found some converting offers, making a profit, and when I'm ready to scale!

Can anyone recommend and offer rotators or url rotators (not exactly sure how that works but have an idea).

edit: Actually I think just Googling "php script url rotator" will find what I'm after
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[868536].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Marian Berghes
by traffic regenerator I mean a script that will pop-up a window when the user moves his mouse cursor to close the website.

In that window you can offer him another offer or you can ask for contact details and market trough autoresponder later on.

and yeah just search on google for "exit pop-up" or something like that and you can find some.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[868616].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author promo_guy
Cool, thanks Marian. Was looking for that the other day (exit pop up)

PPC-Coach, I agree, a site would probably do better. I saw this site from a thread and think it'll come in handy for others like me getting their landing SITE ready - Privacy Policy / Terms Of Service Generator

Edit: that's what's so cool about WP, you can have a full site up and ready within 10 minutes (not including content or graphics) and with SEO plugins, permalinks etc. should look good to G.

    Hey guys,

I just thought this article would come in handy>> 9 Myths of Landing Page Quality Score

It's not about wordpress but should still come in handy. And its a nice short read.

The biggest myth about QS is actually that ON-SITE factors do NOT play such a big role anymore. Google changed their algorithm, QS is determined DYNAMICALLY and with each click.

This means: You can start out with 7/10 on your site, but it can happen that based on CTR of your ad, it can drop down to 3 in a day or two...OR it can shoot up to 10/10. QS is not static anymore.

And...if i make a typical site with keywords, title, headline and contact us, privacy policy and terms is usually ALWAYS get at least 7/10 if the keyword is not ultra competive.

Eg...i just made a site which was 100% relevant to "glitter text"...and google refused to give me good QS obviously because "glitter text" has a very high search volume. The search volume of a KW can GREATLY decide your initial quality score - and its basically almost like they ignore your page even if its VERY relevant to the keyword.

Google has many "tricks" to want you to pay for clicks...and they really try this in any way only possible. Getting very cheap clicks and good QS on VERY high traffic KWs can be very difficult.

      Hi GeorgR,

I second mediaguy's remark - your contribution to this forum is priceless and the insights and ideas I get thanks to you are priceless.

What you said about the QS depending on the search volume is very interesting. I suppose that the "glitter text" keyword is part of your CPA project you mentioned in your thread "Yeah, CPA Kicks ..." when you said you're working on landing pages for cheap high traffic keywords and converting them on less relevant CPA offers.
After all the information you shared on the subject I think I must check this approach to CPA marketing on the search network.
I have some ideas of my own for cheap high traffic (not too high though :-)) keywords and it'll be interesting if I find a matching offer that converts for them.

Thanks again for all the valuable info!
