Facebook ads?? Totally worthless

Facebook ads only consumed my money, in return for very little engagement...

I won't go into details, I've been testing with Facebook ads for the past 2 months, and results were absolutely unsatisfying. The last ad I've run (post boost ad) was catastrophic: I've specified I wanted people from certain countries, aged 19 to 29. And guess what I get?? Little boys aged 12!!!!

Organic reach has been much better for me than paid reach, and this just doesn't make sense to me. Why on Earth would I want to pay FB to spread my page posts much less than they spread for free??!!!

Either that there is a flaw in their algorithm, or it's designed to suck your blood with false promises!! And you cannot contest, Facebook will still charge you after you ran your campaign no matter the results... They estimate your post will reach 5000-10000 people, it only reaches 1000 with few engagements (although the algorithm supposedly "optimizes" your ad for engagement!!) and you end up paying for the promised 5000 reaches!!!

Look at the attached pic. How acceptable is this??!

    I feel some impatience here.
There are post engagement, sponsor post, etc.
With a targeting option of demography, interest and location.
And different type of bidding model.
Do you think you have all the right choices to pull out the maximum result?

I was VERY patient with it. Every time it failed, I would say that's it, I will never try this again. But I always came back and gave it yet another chance.

Tried many different targeting options for my ads.

I noticed that no matter the interests, countries, age, etc, I'm almost always getting an average CPM of about $4.5. I can't believe that targeting southern american countries costs the same as targeting the US, UK Australia and Canada!!

By the way, the first post I boosted (the very first one, 2 months ago) went BOOM!! 30000 reaches, 10000 clicks/engagements, with an average CPM of $0.47, all for a $15 budget, targeting the US, Canada, Australia and the UK.

After this one, I never saw a CPM of less than $4 (ok, I maybe saw $3). I subsequently used the same target settings as my first post, modified with it, changed it, nada. It's like FB gives you that welcome boost, just to trick you into thinking that every following ad will have the same success, so they can suck your money.

If you're using oCPM, it greatly influenced with your daily budget.
What bidding model are you using.

What's the different between your new and your cold campaign mate.

    Guys,

Facebook advertising is NOT about the oCPM cost or CPC cost, it is the matter of ROI. By now i have spend almost $18,000 in facebook ads and i use it daily.

Simply thing is, how much you are making. Let me help you a bit. I am in Teespring market and for good CPC you need to work on Audience and image (again, my focus is on ROI, if i am making good money with $0.50 click, i am good BUT i work and try to reduce CPC). Look at this newfeed image, i have done for a Tshirt:

This image increased my CTR, thus brining in MORE money.

    --------
    To set your campaign
    --------

Divide your campaign in 4 adgroups:

AD Group 1> Budget $10 > Image (With Yellow Background) > Target: Male > Interest: XYZ

AD Group 2> Budget $10 > Image (With RED background) > taret Male > Interest: XYZ

In next 2 adgroups everything remain same but target is 'female'.

total Budget: $40 however i NEVER need to spend $40 if its a failure becuse in first $5-$6 you'll come to know the outcome and NOTHING will change even you scale it to $1000.

    IF:

Your CTR is good BUT no Sales: CHECK Sales page things, like order button, headline etc

Your CTR is good BUT slow sales: Change the ad interest and add 'likewise' interests.

Your CTR is BAD thus no traffic: Work on images of newsfeed ad.

Few other factors but facebook advertising is FULL TIME job, you cannot let things run go away, you have check hourly stats of campaign. I love doing it, its like stock market, with BUY (increase budget) or SELL (Close/Alter Campaign)

EDIT: I have seen the above facebook fraud video however it makes me SALES, it makes me MONEY, it gets me LEAD, so that's all i want.

    Hope it helps.

That's because your ads suck and no one wants to click on them. If you had better ads, you would get a higher CTR. More clicks. More impressions.

The bottom line is Facebook Advertising is tricky and you need to be really careful. Personally, I never use the 'Boost post' ad option - it's often the most expensive and the least responsive.

    jumbo1,

    What is your conversion goal?
Is it to get more LIKES, post sharing, or direct sales?

If you plan to get sales from fb ads directly, you're right..
it's not as targeted as SEO traffic or PPC.

What works for me is just to generate more leads from FB
and try to close them indirectly.

In my country, the trust factor to buy something directly is low.
So what works is to get them to text you and follow up
    through your mobile phone.

You probably have a very little idea how to use Facebook ads. I've been using it for quite some time with great success. Also, take note that you have to optimize your ads. Most ad will not perform well at the start, but your job is to optimize the ads to get the most out of it!

My ads normally get as much as 20% CTR and multiple conversions with the right targeting, ad copy and ad image.
