I sell women's sporting goods, should I join affiliate network or host my own program?

I own an ecommerce store that sells women's sporting goods. I sell branded products. Profit margins range between 20 - 35%. Eventually I will create and sell only my own brand and margins will increase to about 100%.

I want to begin affiliate marketing but have no prior experience with it. Only exposure I've had is the last 6 hours of reading up I've been doing.

Do you recommend that I join an affiliate network, or do you recommend I host my own program? Which network or software do you recommend?

You could actually do both, most affiliate networks are willing to let you have your own as long as all of the match.

But if you do not have experience it would probably be good to start with an existing network first and let them do what they are best at... getting you affiliates.

Thanks for the info Shane. Is there a network you recommend for physical goods?
