147% ROI on Facebook Ads with Teespring Part II

I thought I'd come out with a new thread to show you guys that this stuff STILL works and works well. I've been working in the Facebook Ads to Teespring game since late December and have done pretty good with it. I have even expanded to my own store now too! Anyhow, I'm currently running a few campaigns and thought I'd show this one that is getting me 147% roi after a day running so far. I will be scaling this and hope to hit several hundred sales.

Here's the proof since proof is all people want:

Here's the expenses, (most never show this part, only big screenshots of earnings):

NOTE: The costs show a start date of June 10th. Reason being I relaunched this campaign using the same campaign and ad as the previously profitable one. (You can and should take advantage of positive social proof and shares on facebook).

So my ROI is 147% which is fantastic. I have read in a lot of groups and things on facebook about people asking if they should kill campaigns if they're not getting 100%+ roi. I say anything above 0% is a keeper! Don't be fooled by people bragging about 200%+ roi campaigns, sure they exist but they don't get those with every attempt.

Oh and for those who are going to ask here's the details of this one:
  1. I used PPE, (Page Post Engagement), as the objective for this ad.
  2. I post a real post on a real page.
  3. I used OCPM as the bidding type with default values.
  4. The audience is around 500,000 total for this ad.
  5. I used audience insights to find unique interests to target for this ad.

Now I know people might be confused with audience insights, so I also shot a video showing how to use it. It's below, view it and hopefully you get something of value out of it.

Remember one attempt is not good enough. It takes several to make it work.

    Damn, that`s awesome!

Do you always use PPE or just in this case? How long do you recommend to wait until you relaunch a campaign?

I used to only use Website Conversions. BUT I decided to give PPE a shot after talking to people who are having a lot of success with it. It works best when you make a real post on a real page, (no dark posts). I like to use them in proven niches and I keep reusing the post with a relaunch of the same design.

There is no "right" way though. There's the one that works best for you.

Understood. The video was very informative, my head is spinning with ideas! Yesterday I ended a campaign, and it did ok considering I had little budget and no experience. I am thinking of relaunching it since I had earned some money and now can spend even more. Should I wait a couple of weeks to relaunch it or would it be ok if I did it immediately? I don`t wanna spam the buyers.

Omg I launched another campaign 2 hours ago and after 3 clicks got a sale! I am on a roll

p.s. am I suppose to create a separate pixel for each campaign? or just one for all?
        {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9286869].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author PPC-Coach
I relaunch continually until it dies out. But it's up to you. You could schedule relaunches too.

I only use one pixel for all campaigns.

    Oh and congrats!

How can you tell apart conversions for each campaign if you are using only one pixel for all. Doesn't that make optimization difficult?
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9287109].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author PPC-Coach
No you can use their conversion pixel regardless of the ad objective.

The reports will show conversions, even on a PPE ad.

Extremely informative stuff, thanks for it. Your video tut is excellent. I have also good success with PPE over anything else too, usually with at least 5% CTR. But I'll combine using FB's insights with that also.

Any ROI above 0% is definitely the right mentallity. We do a ton of campaigns at 30% to 50% ROI... it's those little base hitters that buys the groceries... until you hit those homeruns. You hit homeruns more often when you've got base hitters closing every week.

Exactly. as long as I don't have a cash flow problem, I will clean up the entire audience to get as many money as possible.

I'm playing with this tool right now- very interesting- thanks!

When you say post to a real page using PPE, I'm assuming you've already got a bit of content on there and some fans- and I assume nearly all of your sales still direct from that ad as opposed to the fans who have liked it?

Couldn't agree more with the post above! Everyone sees all these huge screenshots and thinks "oh if I don't do that then it's not good". Then they get this ridiculous notion that if you don't do 200% roi, you're a failure.

The reality is, you can make a lot of very good money simply by being consistent. When you get a fastball down the pipe, take a wicked swing at it. BUT that doesn't happen every time you step up to the plate. Sometimes singles and doubles are all you need to be a great player.

Thanks for your post (I actually came across Warrior Forum and registered because of your initial post back in January)

I had found Teespring from ordering a shirt off of their site -- and being a fan of online opportunities (I'm a constant reader at another IM forum) but never once found one that I was really excited about.

My plan was to make a dot com that would act as a landing/splash page. From there I would have a product list, with the individual items linking to the Teespring. I filter all of my ads on Facebook through a Facebook page (with quite a few likes from Advertising) and have a niche that is popular but not over saturated -- but the ultimate goal/business model is to rotate niches as the campaigns expire.

We're getting some good clicks, likes, and website visits -- as well as a lot of shares/comments/likes of interested buyers, but only a few sales so far, no completed campaigns

I feel confident in the product/design that we have, so I'm kind of just trying to hold steady and be patient. I did learn through your previous post about Conversion tracking, instead of paying be click -- I just set my ad campaign up through that.

It's been a fun process, I just hope I don't run out of play money before at least breaking even (the expanded fanbase is worth that alone)

Keen to keep reading what you post about, there's a lot to learn for me still.

      Cool!

One thing though, if you're using your own site, why not start up your own store? I did. I do both teespring and my own store. Each has benefits and drawbacks and I was on the fence for a while so my solution was to do both.

I like how with your own shop you get instant payments and no minimums. The margins are a little less, but the ability to do somethings you can't do on teespring make up for it.

Coach is it true that you always set your campaigns' sales goals to 10 shirts minimum? Does Teespring really always adjust your profits/sale ratio upwards once your campaign tips?

Agreed. My goal was to find more custom accessories that function like Tee Spring, and kind of run a themed set of all of them -- Ideally I'd love to do my own shop, but was hoping Teespring could help fund that startup, and cover some initial costs -- I also have some other ideas, that aren't fully baked yet.

I had actually contacted Customer Support in regards to that. According to the rep I talked to, it is not exactly what the margin would have been if the reserve is set to begin with, but they say they give you a "bonus for selling over your initial amount" but told me that it was "not able to be calculated in advance"

I know one of the benefits to doing the higher reserves is if you can't offer the product competitively at the lowest reserve :

For instance a product I used that had 6 different colors, the minimum price on a T-Shirt was around $22 at 10 reserves, but with 30 reserves it dropped drastically to $12

I agree. I believe Teespring has a very clever marketing department of their own
        {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9290055].message }}
        • Profile picture of the author PPC-Coach
Yeah if you look at them, their margins are gigantic!

They get a large piece of every single shirt that goes through them. They get a massive discount from shirts.io, (which I believe is their supplier/dropshipper). If you go on the shirts.io site and start snooping around you'll see how it works. Massive discounts for larger orders and teespring pumps through orders in nice volumes.

          For example:

Go to this page and start playing around: https://www.shirts.io/pricing/

Select a white shirt then $250,000+ annual revenue, (teespring is more then this but this is all they'll show on their site at shirts.io). 1000+ screenprinted costs teespring $2.09 per shirt!

So you know all those very large campaigns that go through? Say a guy sells 1,000 shirts:

          1,000 at $19.99 = $19,990 revenue generated total
          Seller gets what $11 per shirt? (guessing) that's $11 x 1,000 = $11,000
Teespring gets the remainder which is $9,000 profit.

The difference is the seller paid for traffic most likely so cut their profit in at least half, the seller, (guys like you and I), keep $5,500 after expenses.

Teespring didn't pay a dime for the traffic! It's all profit to them after they pay for the shirt. So they get $9,000 but have to buy 1,000 shirts at $2.09, (which is high it's probably HALF that in reality). So their expenses are 1,000 x 2.09 = $2,090. Their net is $9,000 - $2,090 = $6,910 on this one deal.

Now if you look at teesprings website, they have sold 1.6 million shirts now. If we figure they pull a net profit of minimum $6,910 / 1,000 = $6.91 per shirt. That's $6.91 x 1,600,000 = $11,060,000 PROFIT.

What does this mean? It means you should open up a site like teespring. Hire a business development manager and get his brother to show the world how to make money on teespring. Then get a couple big marketers on board, launch a product, get a massive influx of sales. Not to mention the copycat products and all the tools that are now out there for it!

Brilliant plan, brilliant execution and I'm totally jealous that I didn't think of it first!

NOTE: These are all estimations and just pure assumptions on my part. Do not take that as gospel.

Coach do you always target users with "online spending" behavior in your campaigns? I really wonder how accurate that is. I'm assuming it is because Facebook mines some great data but I don't think it ALWAYS makes a huge difference, idk. Thoughts?

Sorry I ask you so many questions haha. You seem like an authority figure on Teespring. Once I make some big sales I promise I'll give back

I don't even bother with online spenders. I have tested it and haven't found it to make much of a difference. Sometimes we can over think and limit our campaigns through way too aggressive "perfect" targeting.

Think of it as someone walking into a grocery store. We know there is "interest" in shopping for groceries, but really we don't know exactly which product they're going to buy and someone going in for milk and eggs might see an ice cream flavor on sale and decide to buy it just because they were there and the impulse was strong!

I can't remember my point, but I know there's one in there.

            Hey PPC Coach,

What size demographic should I be looking at for specific niches? I am curious mostly because I have been running this current campaign for a few hours now and I have had only 1 click.

Right now I am focusing on around 8 Million people, but I heard it should be as specific as 1 million or lower.

On top of that, how do you ensure your ad will reach people? I started 4 campaigns at the same time to see which one generated more interest, and only 1 has reached people.

            I appreciate the help.

Online spenders are people who use FB coupons etc, no-one buys Teespring through coupons.

If you want to go after spenders, target active CC users, or people who are more likely to purchase clothing.

    Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner at tee spring and just recently launched a campaign using FB Post engagement ad as my tool for promoting. I have 3 sales so far. Ad spent is about $25 should I keep going?

    Here are my FB stats:
    Reach: 5720
    Engagement: 719
Clicks: 816 (591 post likes, 67 website clicks etc)
    CTR: 13.8%

Great stats but it's all about if you have positive cash flow from your campaign or not. Did you make about $25 profit from your 3 sales? You're probably a little in the negative. Seems like people really like your ad and want to click through, but something is stopping them from purchasing. Figure out how to close your sales in a stronger way. Add urgency to your creative (purchase today, buy it now etc).

    8 million is too large.

I've found 350,000 to be my sweet spot. Now don't only go for that number. You can make a lot with WAY less and WAY more, but I try to keep it under 1,000,000 typically.

UPDATE: Well the ROI has dropped to 89% but that was my fault. I did some extra aggressive testing on this one. The good part is the profit is at $954 without the bonus, so I'll take almost $1,000 in a week in profit anytime on a campaign!

Here's the revenue and costs as of this morning:

I'm hoping to cross 200 sales on it and I have a ton of great data, (plus a retargeting list) for this one. So it'll go into my stable of profitable ones for sure.

Oh and one other thing. I have heard from and read about a lot of people who get so hung up on things that simply don't matter. The one thing is the cost per engagement. It doesn't matter what it is as long as you're profitable. So dumping a campaign because your cost per engagement is "too high" is baloney. This one has a relatively high cost per engagement and it's profiting nicely.

My CTR and rates for engagement just aren't where they should be. I'm incredibly new to Facebook Advertising though -- I feel like I've got a lot to learn to really target people.

UPDATE: The campaign is now over. It ran for 1 week and here's the numbers:

    Revenue: $2,805.37
    Cost: $1,268.21
    Profit: $1,537.16
    ROI: 121%

Here's the revenue just before it ended:

Here's the final revenue, (the bonus amount per shirt kicked in so it jumped nicely:

Here's the cost for the week:

So I'm pretty happy with this one, it's one that will be relaunched throughout the year now. I like to schedule my relaunches so that eventually all I will be doing is relaunching campaigns instead of testing very many new niches.

Relaunches work awesome because you can also email the people who bought before, (espeically if you have a new design in the same niche). It gives your campaigns a nice boost. My next step for this niche is building out a membership site and email list for it. I will be adding in other traffic sources as well since I know it works on facebook nicely.

      Nice one PPC-Coach!

I'm a beginner with Teespring and a bit overwhelmed with all the information. There are so many ways to do all these things. What do you recommend I should focus on? What numbers should I look at? If it was your first week and first campaigns on Teespring, how would you start to build your knowledge about these ads and campaigns?

Well pick a niche that wears t-shirts. Then go to ebay.com, amazon.com, zazzle.com, cafepress.com and find a design that you think will do well. Get one made up and fire it out there!

Another thing I've been wondering about is the way to bid. People seem to use oCPM and I dunno is it because I'm a complete beginner but I can't find it. What I have available is CPC, CPM and Bid For Conversions. It would make sense to bid for conversions since that's what we are after but when the recommended bid starts from 12e and you're making 6e, I don't know what I'm missing here

This is going to sound real nooob and I apoligise for that, but how do I go about creating the initial post on my page as an add?

Do I have to overlay text onto the picture I am using or write text above it with a link?

I want to give this PPE method a go, and can see how to utilise the page post in adds manager once it is on my page. Just want to get the first part right!

        Thanks

          Hello PPC-Coach,
Thanks you very much for both threads and lots of great info!

Is there any room yet for Teespring and Facebook?
Are you still doing well for that?

          Thanks in advanced!!!

Do you create ads with 1 interest or you create 1 single ad with a lot of interests together?
        What is your strategy?

I use OCPM 90% of the time with my campaigns. I have found it ends up with far lower costs then CPC. I can switch some to CPM later and bid very high once I have the demographic and targeting dialed in though too.

I would start with OCPM and use their defaults.

Great video! I used the boost option on promoting my campaign from my fan page - a method that helped me gain Likes for my page, and it was proven successful. I didn't know about that method you showed on the video. I definitely gotta try that. Thanks for the tip.
