I'm often asked if it's possible to make money on the Internet with eBooks even though we're in the middle of a recession. Judging from the financial performance of my eBook publishing company, I'd have to say that yes -- you can make money on the Internet regardless of the economy. But there's more to this than meets the eye, and I'm going to explain what I mean in a moment.
When you first get started with an eBook publishing business, it's easy to get discouraged and distracted. One of the nicest ways to be reminded that you've made the right decision to get into this business is to see that you're making sales. However, during tough economic times, sales can be a bit lumpy. I notice that I get a lot of sales around the time people get paid. This suggests to me that folks are being a bit more conservative and are making sure they actually have the money they're about to spend.
Overall, my sales are actually up around 7% from last year. I've made up for a slowdown in some topic areas by expanding into others. You're going to find that some topics do really well during a recession, whereas other topics tend to lag a bit.
