Article Marketers: Grab Your Readers by the Eyeballs

As an article writer, I have always been challenged to create article titles that attract an audience.

The best written articles will result in wasted time and resources, if no one reads the article.

To get your masterpiece article read, you must get your masterpiece opened. And the way most people write article titles, no one but a search engine will ever open the article.

I am going to go on a limb here and suggest that half the stuff you read about creating article titles is completely wrong.

Ezine Articles has several free guides on its website for authors to learn how to get the most of their articles.

But I am going to tell you that some of the authors of those guides occasionally give bad advice.

In their guide on Article Titles and Keywords, they start on good footing....

In the first paragraph, they were right on the money:

In traditional copywriting, your headline determines as much as 95% of the success of the book or article.
Great so far, then this guide goes downhill fast...

By the time they hit that 6th paragraph, their advice goes terribly wrong -- and this is the advice that everyone follows... LOL

The first 3-5 words of your Article Title determine the success of your article in terms of how much traffic your article will generate back to your website. Create keyword rich article titles that match the most commonly searched keywords for your topic.
Follow EZA's guidance on titles at your own peril.

I understand what they are trying to say, but following that advice will usually backfire on you.

The context in which they make that suggestion is to help your article rank in Google. But ranking in Google will not provide you any real value, UNLESS people click your article in Google's search listings!!

So what if your article ranks #1 for your target keywords... If your article title does not attract readers like flies to scat, then no one is ever going to read your masterpiece article!!

Keep in mind that you can rank an article based on Keywords in the Title, Keywords in the Article Body, and anchor text keyword links pointing to the article.

Why would you be willing to waste this killer opportunity to attract your target audience to read your article and click the link in your resource box, in order to visit your website today and buy what you are selling today?

LOL

"Oh... Well, I can wait for that traffic, if in the end I can rank my website for the anchor text keywords in my resource box."

Yep, that would make a lot of sense. Forget making money today, and instead, pray for making money tomorrow.

LOL

Don't you remember the truth that their guide told you:

In traditional copywriting, your headline determines as much as 95% of the success of the book or article.
That is accurate, because your headline will determine if someone actually opens your article to read it.

An article that doesn't get opened does not get read. And an article that does not get read won't have people clicking the link in the resource box.

And if no one is following the link in your resource box to your website, your chances of getting a sale from someone is greatly diminished.

Simple.

By creating a thread title that attracts eyeballs, people will be given the chance to read what we have written, and people will get a chance to buy what we know they will want to buy.

I will often sit on a finished article, until which time I have found the article title that I believe will cause people to open my article.

If you have taken the time to write a great article, what is it going to hurt to think on a title for a few days, to make sure you get a title that will capture eyeballs and get your articles opened?
