CPanel makes managing the back end of your website convenient and easy. With all of the tools you will need to manage files, emails, create databases and install scripts, you'd be lost without cPanel as a website owner.

In this article we will focus our attention on the file manager features of cPanel. The file manager makes it possible to manage the files for your website using the HTTP protocol rather than FTP. With cPanel's file manager, you can create or delete files, upload and download, and organize all of your website's files easily without the need to learn how to use more complicated software.

To find the file manager in cPanel, scroll down to the 'Files,' tab on the cPanel home screen.

Backups
There is a quick video tutorial to walk you through using the Backups application within cPanel. Backups allows you to back up all of the files for your website to guard against any unforseen disasters that would result in your site crashing such as getting hacked. You can initiate a full or partial backup of your website, backup your MySQL databases and download copies to your PC, and backups of your email forwarders and filters.

Backup Wizard
The Backup Wizard walks you through the three steps of backup/restore, full or partial backup, and downloading the data to your computer.

File Manager
Click on the File Manager button and then select the directory you want to open. You will have your choice of: Home directory, Web Root (public_ftp), or Public FTP Root (public_ftp). You can select Document Root and then, if you are managing more than one domain, you would choose which domain you want to work with. Then click on the 'Go,' button.

From the File Manager, you can create new files and folders, upload new files to the server, and edit existing files. To upload a new file, click on the Upload icon, and click on the 'Browse' button. Search for the file that you want to upload and then double click it. It will begin uploading.

If you want to save time and effort when you have a bunch of files to upload at a time, you can compress the files into a zipped folder on your desktop and then upload the zipped file to your server and then unzip it. Select and highlight the files that you want to upload. Right click on them, choose 'Send to' and then, 'Compressed (zipped) Folder.' Click on 'Upload Files', 'Browse,' and then locate the zipped folder you just created. Click on the zipped folder to upload it to your server. Click on 'Back to home/. . .' and locate the zipped file that you just uploaded. Click on it and select 'Extract' from the top navigation bar, which will extract the files from the zipped folder. You will now see the individual files in the file manager.
