One of cPanel's more powerful applications is the software and services tab. The tools that cPanel provides can allow you to quickly and easily install software on your server that used to take hours of tedious coding and uploading of various different files. Let's take a look at some the services that you might find in your cPanel.

CGI Center
The CGI center includes a menu of pre-installed scripts that you can use in your account such as:
  • Simple CGI Wrapper
  • Random HTML Generator
  • Simple Guestbook
  • Advanced Guestbook
  • Counter, Clock, Countdown
  • Other scripts that you might find useful on your website
Perl Module Installer
Some versions of cPanel might include the Perl Module installer, which are collections of functions that allow you to perform tasks in the Perl programming language.

Fantastico DeLuxe
Fantastico is most likely the most popular button in the software and services tab because it contains powerful scripts that make the installation of blogs and content management systems as easy as a few clicks. Fantastico allows you to quickly and easily install:
  • Blogs
  • Classifieds
  • Content Managment Systems
  • CRM
  • Discussion Boards
  • E-Commerce Shopping Carts
  • FAQ
  • Hosting Billing
  • Image Galleries
  • Mailing Lists
  • And several others
You can use Fantastico to install any of the scripts mentioned along with several others. The software automatically installs a MySQL database for the specific program.

To install a WordPress blog, simply click on 'WordPress' in the left menu of scripts. Next, click 'New Installation,' and then you will fill in the following fields:

Install on domain: type your domain name.

Install in directory: If this blog is the only thing that you will have on this domain, then you can leave this field blank. If you want to host other properties on this domain, put the blog in its own directory called, "blog."

Admin access data: Enter a username that you will remember. The default is 'Admin,' but if you leave the username as 'Admin,' it will make your site much easier to hack.

Create a strong password that is alpha-numeric, and contains upper and lower case letters and a few characters. Write down your username and password and keep them somewhere safe.

Admin nickname: Choose this carefully as this will be displayed publicly as the author of your blog posts.

Admin email: This is the email address that will be associated with the blog.

Site name: This is the name of the blog.

Description: This is where you would put your blog's tagline if you have one.

After you fill in all of those fields, click on 'Install WordPress,' next click 'Finish installation.' The software will send you an email with all of the details about your WordPress installation.

That's how easy it is to install a blog when you have Fantastico on cPanel.
