Article Marketing - Is It Still A Viable Method Of Promotion?

In this article we are going to look at article marketing and some of the changes that have happened recently that have caused people to rethink their article marketing strategies.
You may remember a few months ago the Google Farmer update where a lot of the top article directories such as Ezine articles, Articles Base etc... lost quite a lot of their listings as Google strives for quality content.
So does that mean that Google is looking for something more than written content?
No, in fact if you think Google IS moving away from article marketing go and conduct any search on Google and let me know if you find a page without an article or any written content on it?
The fact is that Google is striving for quality and nothing much has changed.
"Wait! - If I Can't Rank With The Article Directories On Google Where Do I Get My Traffic From?"
Well this is the main question that people are asking and as mentioned above NOTHING has changed in how an EFFECTIVE article marketing campaign works.
You see it has NEVER been about writing hundreds of articles with a link to your product at the bottom and submitting all those 250 word articles to Ezine articles in hopes of some sales.
If you have done the above don't worry I have been there too!
In fact you pick up any "how to make money online" product from 2006 - 2008 and most would have a section telling you to do this.
A good way of thinking of the above method is "Article Directory Marketing" and if you are relying on the article directories solely for traffic you will be in for a bumpy ride with all of the changes.
You should use Article Marketing to grow your own websites and the directories to boost the rank of your OWN website.
You can do this by syndicating your articles, content curation, guest posting etc...
The KEY is writing for YOUR market and making sure that the content is published or at least your site is accessible where your market frequent online.
For instance let us look at an example:
You write an article for Dog training and post to Ezine articles.
Even if you get ranked on the first page you will get some quality traffic but for how long?
Now I am not saying to not bother to try and get ranked for your keywords but Google can change and then you can lose all of your traffic overnight.
However say you wrote an article and submitted that one article to your site and it got picked up by one of the top Dog training blogs!
Well you can see that you would get a ton of traffic as the content is shared around other blogs in the niche and build an authority as people in turn would visit YOUR blog.
Conclusion:
Article marketing is not dead! In fact it is VERY much alive!
All you need to do is work out where your market frequent and concentrate on getting your content in front of them.
Then you don't need to worry so much about Google's changes!
