The one thing you have to consider when you start out using any marketing strategy is the long-term viability of it. Now, we all know that the Internet changes very quickly. What works today may not work tomorrow. However, some methods will work longer than others simply because of how they are built.
In my opinion, marketing methods like article marketing and pay per click advertising will last for a long time. In fact, I believe pay per click advertising will last the longest out of all marketing methods. Why? Because Google's profits are largely derived from the revenue from their AdWords program. If that goes bust, their profits will be severely reduced. So they will do everything in their power to stop that. And Google is a large company with a lot of clout, so they will keep on optimizing their AdWords system so that it keeps both searchers and advertisers happy. The tactics will change, but the system will still work.
Pay per click advertising is also a cut-throat game. In other words, only the fittest survive. Those who don't have the budget, can't stand the heat, or have ineffective ads, have their ads removed by them or by the AdWords editors. So nothing stays for long. Only the strongest remain.
Another marketing strategy that will probably last for at least probably a decade or so more is email marketing. Unless a better solution comes up, people will still be using email in 5 years time or even 10 years time. The avenue will be more advanced, but people will still be sending and receiving their online mail. So this is another strategy you can bank on for the long haul.
