Click fraud is an artificially created click on your ads and this is a real concern of any web marketer. These click frauds can be done by real humans, for their respective gains, or with the use of a software program where several clicks on a particular ad are made.

Click frauds naturally cost advertiser's money, because money is involved whenever an ad is clicked on. Identifying these click frauds and where they come from, may be a hard thing to do however and this makes the case even harder.

Campaigns have to be checked regularly in order to identify if this is already happening in your website. Slight divergence in your marketing campaign has to be looked into, a quick and highly identifiable change in the trends, or just a quick and big increase in your ads spent is a concern.

When you notice an increase in your click throughs, which is highly questionable, it can be a source of concern and you have to do some investigations. What are these things and what will you do in order to keep you away from click fraud?

  • The first thing to do when you encounter this problem is to investigate if there are real reasons for this sudden increase in clicks made. Was there an extra advertising effort, not done on your side, which helped in creating awareness of your products?
  • Did you have an increase in sales, considering that you had an increase in clicks made? An increase in sales is a good indicator of real traffic, but if you did not feel an increase in sales then something must be wrong.
  • If you think that the traffic is fraudulent then you have to gather as much information that you can get. Record all information like the time when this sudden increase happened and on what keywords where these click frauds experienced.
  • The next thing that you can do is to check on your servers and checked if there are suspicious servers indicated. Try to investigate further by identifying if these clicks were made from the same IP address.
  • If you have already all the data, submit them to Google Support and let them take over from there. Let them do the proper investigation in order to give you explanations on why these things are happening and why your payments on Google ad placements are giving you headaches.

In some cases in other parts of the world real humans are those that make the clicks leaving without suspicions from the same IP addresses. Others also make these strategies for their personal gains because they can have money from the clicks made on ads on your website and these are solely for gains of their own.
