Step #1: Social Bookmarking
The first step I normally take is to submit my site or my web page to all the social bookmarking sites that I use. This is a quick way to get your pages on high authority websites to start getting some traction in your link building.
Step #2: Blog Commenting
Find popular blogs in your niche market and comment on the posts. Include a link back to your site in the posts. Be sure to post quality information though, because blog owners are much more careful these days about letting spammers post on their blogs.
Step #3: Article Submissions
Write articles and submit them to high authority article directories. Article directories often have a high Page Rank which will enable you to get high quality links simply by submitting to them and including your link in the resource box.
Step #4: Piggybacking
The last step is the most vital one. I want to see what other sites are doing with their incoming links. So I do a search for my main keyword phrase on Google, and make a list of all the pages for the first page of results. I then do a search like this 'link:competitorswebsite.com' on Google again to see where they are getting their links from. This is an easy way to build a proven link building campaign.
