Here's a big question: can article marketing be your only source of traffic? Yes, it probably can be if you have the time and effort in it, although I won't recommend it. Yes, articles have the capability to drive 100+, 200+ or even 500+ visitors per day to your web pages, but ultimately you want to diversify your traffic online. Start off focused on one traffic source. Then diversify to other traffic sources.
At the start, you can use article marketing alone to generate visitors. This is partly because you want to master one traffic generation source first. And article marketing is perfect as a first traffic source. It's easy to master, and you are almost guaranteed to get traffic if you write and submit good articles.
Articles generate the most of my traffic and it delivers the greatest returns for me over time. Most of all, the traffic is consistent and predictable. I log in to my traffic stats program and I get consistent numbers on a daily basis because I have this mass of quality articles out there. You can get the same results too.
But I can't guarantee that articles will work in the long run or that you will generate the same amount of profits as I have it. Yes, you will get targeted traffic, but it's up to you to convert that traffic to profits. That's an article for another day! Use other traffic sources to supplement article marketing, master articles, then master another traffic source to add it to your traffic pipelines.
