If Your Bounce Rate Is Over 35% Your Losing Money
- ARTICLES |
I have to admit I use to never pay a lot of attention to bounce rates on websites, I mean that is not the sexy thing to do. We like talking SEO, Backlinking, high PR sites, social marketing, etc. You create a product with any of those buzz words in it, and bam, you made five figures in a day.
But for the long run in building a healthy business you need to focus on these numbers. If it is high, then it is a sure fire alert to Google that you have design challenges. And if you are working your tail off driving traffic to your sites, then your losing money.
According to Google, "Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. Use this metric to measure visit quality - a high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren't relevant to your visitors."If you start to see numbers over 35% then you will want to figure out why, if it is over 50% you might want to worry.
Google Analytics specialist Avinash Kaushik has stated: "My own personal observation is that it is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying. I stress that this is my personal analysis."Why Do You Have A High Bounce Rate
Without looking at your site it is hard to tell, but usually it centers around a few things. One it could be hard to navigate, hard to read, fonts are wacked, poor design elements, screams don't trust me, no social activity, poor copywriting, and a slew of different options.
I have seen some sites that take forever to load. If a site takes too long people just move on, I don't care how wonderful the site is.
The worst thing about this is if your site has a high bounce rate it may be telling Google that your site is not representing the keyword you are trying to rank for. This is becoming more and more important with the Panda update.
There are a lot or ways you can improve your bounce rate. But the first thing you must do is get a comprehensive report on how well your site is optimized.
