How to Find Telecommute Jobs on Craigslist and Monster

If you want to switch your source of income from a job to a work-at-home income, finding a telecommute job can be a great solution. What are telecommute jobs and where can you find one? Two places to look are Craigslist and Monster.

=> What Is a Telecommute Job?

A telecommute job is basically a job you can do from home. This differs from freelancing because you usually have just one employer, an actual boss and a job description.

Telecommute jobs can include phone translation, phone sales, online customer service, programming, managing websites or web advertising and more.

The interview process and the first few weeks of your job will usually be in person. From then on, you'll mostly be working from home, seeing your employer only occasionally.

Here's how to find such jobs on Craigslist and Monster.

=> Finding a Telecommute Job on Craigslist

Navigate to the Jobs section of Craigslist. Click on the industry you want to work in to see all the listings in that industry.

Along the top, check the box that says "Telecommute." Hit search to show only jobs that are telecommute jobs. If you want only part-time telecommute jobs, check "part time" as well.

If you're not looking for long-term work but are instead looking for short-term projects, you can also look in the Gigs section in Craigslist.
Often one-time programming, transcribing or writing jobs can be found there.

When you hit Monster.com's front page, click on "Advanced Search" under the search box.

Put in either telecommute, work at home or work from home in the keyword box. Fill out the rest of the search and hit enter.

Try plugging all three keywords into the "Keyword" tab, then try plugging all three keywords into the "Location" tab. You'll pull up more listings by doing all available searches.

=> Tips on Applying for a Telecommute Job

Telecommute jobs can be very competitive. Everyone wants to work from their home. Here are a few tips for helping you land the job.
First of all, try to work in an industry related to what you have experience in.

If you've been in finance for five years, aim to be a work-from-home account manager or accounting salesperson, for example.

Second, try asking people you already know about the possibility of working from home. Past employers may be willing to adjust your job description to being a work-at-home job if they really want to keep you.

Finally, one way to distinguish yourself from everyone else applying for the job is to simply show up in person. Instead of just being another resume they receive, if you actually show up at the office you'll make a much stronger impression.

Working from home can offer a lot of freedom with little to no loss in pay. Use these tips to find telecommute jobs in your own network and on Craigslist and Monster.com.
