List Building Tips - Why is a Mailing List a "Must"?

If I could sum up why list building is a must, it is this - you need to build a database of prospects you can contact at anytime of the day. That's the really the key here. Your own mailing list is really your own personal instant traffic source that you can tap into at anytime of the day to make sales, gather more information from your marketplace and establish yourself as an expert.

In Internet marketing, there are really two main methods you can use to put the direct response marketing approach to work. You can send your visitors to a direct sales letter or send them to an opt-in page where they can opt-in to your mailing list and receive your email newsletter, before they see your sales letter.

Both approaches can work very well, but my personal favorite is the opt-in page. The reason I use it is because I want to pre-qualify my visitors before they see the sales page. If they're not willing to give me some simple contact details, what chance have they to buy from me?

And here's another important point: with a list, you can follow-up with them on your sales letter. You can expose your sales letter to them several times if you choose to. If you send your visitors to a direct sales page, chances are a good chunk of them (more than 90%) will leave and never come back! If you don't build a list, you won't be able to contact these people again. That's why I always recommend that marketers build their own mailing list online. You can't fail not to increase your profits with it.
