The first thing you focus on is proper research. You have to find the right products and markets that you want to venture into. If you don't then you will be dead in the water before you even enter the battle.
After doing proper research on products and market, you will want to find at least 10 Products To Promote. I'm not saying you find these ten all at one time, but you want to always be adding to your arsenal. As an affiliate you will want to make sure you have plenty of products to promote. You need to be able to mix it up, be somewhat passionate about the product, but not wed to it, and even perhaps own or get a sample of it so you know your product. I never promote products that I don't own and use, but I know this is not the norm in affiliate marketing.
But the reason you want to get this right...is because products come and go. Products are hot and then something new comes along that replaces the old one. There is a place called the warrior forum. On that site they make a killing with something called WSO's. The products sell for $7-$9 bucks and they sell like hot cakes. But it is a model of the moment. In other words people who build and sell WSO's do so for the launch. Their product has a shelf life of about 3-5 days and then it all dies out. So, unless you have a massive list...you would not want to start out promoting these products, or solely promoting these products.
You want to make sure you don't become overwhelmed during this process. So make sure you pick products carefully. You also want to choose popular products because you want to have top performing products.
Let me give you some things to consider as you pick products.
I am going to give you three places to go and look for products and describe each one of them and what you are looking for as you do your research.
The first thing to consider and perhaps the easiest piece of all this is choosing a category you want to work with. Don't worry, because all affiliate products have information that allows you to make good decisions.
The three sites you want to focus on are:
- Clickbank Marketplace
- CB Trends
- CB Engine
- First thing to look at is the Sale Price: ($/Sale) this is your money...this is what you get paid for referring customers that buy. The best part is that it is all controlled by clickbank. They pay you every two weeks.
- Look at the Percentage of Sale: (%/Sale) this is how clickbank communicates the average percentage commissions earned per affiliate sale.
- Another thing to pay attention to is the Referral %: This is the percentage of sales
- Perhaps one of the more important things to pay attention to would be the Gravity of Product: You need to pay attention to this number. This shows you the popularity of the product over time. Every time the product is sold or a new affiliate joins and uses the link the gravity of the program will change.
Click Bank Trend
You really need to be paying attention to the popularity, price, and the commission paid out by the product.
When you start looking at the popularity or gravity of a product you need to stay away from very high gravities. A very high gravity would be (125+). When you get this high it communicates that the market is very competitive. So unless you are prepared to write 30 articles and promote those articles for a competitive market, go after the lower ones. Not ones that are worse or not as good, but do some research for some products that the super affiliates have not found yet.
This only applies to Clickbank and not the other organizations we talk about.
One place that you can look at these products is in a free service called CB Trends. It breaks down everything we are talking about and places it in a visual display that is easy to understand.
There are some useful tracking tools that give you an easy way to see what is happening with the products you choose:
- Popularity of the product
- Earning per sale
- Percent per sale
If you were to take all these ideas and tools and compare it to what you are seeing in the Clickbank's Marketplace, you will have a great idea on whether or not you will want to market that product. What you are shooting for is six out of the ten products you promote to be popular.
Another place you can go as an affiliate is CB engine. What they focus on are new products, which makes it an excellent tool. I would suggest you start with clickbank and bookmark CB Engine and use it.
What you look for is the Brand New Products list, and the re-listed products. Each list has a ton of information that helps you make an informed decision on the product you may want to promote. Each list has graphs and visuals that allows you to see the health and viability of the products they have listed.
Bonus Method For Finding Products
The last method I will discuss is to just go out and pick products that relate to you or your market. One of the best tests in anything is the eye test.
What do you see when you visit the page, would you buy from them or use the product. I always tell people if you look at your site or article and think it looks bad, so does everyone else that comes and sees it.
If you like it and it fits in your business model, then buy the product. This is what I do.
I go through the whole process, see how it is purchased and delivered and what is in the product.
A quick tip, once you look at the product and know the product, shoot a quick screen capture video review and place it on you tube. Place an affiliate link under the video and bam, you will start making sales. Be sure to use SEO techniques.
Now if you are going after 10 products that might be too pricey to start with one. So, purchase a couple that you can afford, promote and then move on to the next one.
Here are some things you will want to pay attention to before you buy or pick a product this way. Go into this as though you are the buyer.
Ask yourself some basic questions:
- Does the page, headline and opening paragraph grab your attention.
- Is the page easy to read in terms of colors, graphics and layout of the site.
- Is the message being presented clear and concise and easy-to-understand.
- Are there highlights of important facts, headlines to break up content and pictures that are relevant to the topic matter?
- Does the page lead you to the logical conclusion where you want to buy the product?
These things are important. I have seen some great marketers and affiliates never make it because they pick really bad products to promote. You have to think about the entire process. Everything we are talking about is important.
When a page is converting, promote the heck out of it. Some will tell you to test a product with 500 hits. I am telling you that if you are not getting sales in 50 hits move on. Or at the very least, people hitting the buy page. Having a page where you want to buy the product will generally translate to high sales conversions.
If you have questions or if you are not impressed by the homepage, then the people you send to that page will have the same experience.
This is why I said; don't be wed to the product. Because you have to know when to walk away.
