We've been talking quite a bit on this blog about mobile marketing and how hot it has become. With the growing popularity of smart phones, and the fact that most people have their cell phones within arms reach for every waking hour of the day, and the fact that more people are now accessing the web using their phones than using their laptop or desktop computer, it is time to give serious time and energy to using mobile landing pages to serve your customers who are accessing your site using their cell phones.

In a previous post about mobile marketing with QR codes, we talked about the importance of having a dedicated mobile landing page so that when visitors take the time to capture your QR codes with their phone, they are able to easily view and interact with the page that they are brought to. So, let's take a look at five tips that you can put into practice when you are developing your mobile landing pages.
  • Do not use Flash elements on your mobile landing pages as neither iphone, nor Blackberry use Flash. On phones that do use Flash, it lowers the speed of the page's load time, which might make visitors give up and click away before they even see your page.
  • Use the minimal amount of text necessary to get your point across. No one wants to read tiny print on a tiny screen. Use clear images and get to the point.
  • Design for a touch-screen interface
Your mobile pages must have interactive elements that are friendly to touch- screen devices. Your buttons, form elements and links need to be sized to allow room for finger tips touching the screen and getting what they want instead of accidentally clicking another button because it was spaced too closely.
  • Test and track your campaigns
If you are using QR codes with your landing pages, make sure to track them using your favorite analytics package. Test different elements and track which ones provide the best return so that you can keep improving your results.
  • Make is easy for your visitors to connect with you
Make sure that your mobile landing pages make it easy for your visitors to follow your call to action and connect with you. It can be a pain typing too much information using touch screen keys. Don't ask for any more information from them than you need. You can always follow up later and get more details from them.

A Google smart phone user study found that 9 out of 10 mobile phone users had, "taken action as a result of a mobile search, with over half leading to a purchase," 74 percent of smart-phone shoppers wind up making a purchase, and among the 82 percent of mobile phone users who noticed ads, 42 percent of them clicked on the ads, and 49 percent made a purchase.
