When is it time to 'overhaul' your Internet business? Here are some indicators to look out for:

1. Your Customers Aren't Buying

This might sound obvious, but I know of people who carry on business as usual for months although their sales are falling like a ton of bricks. They don't make any changes to their pricing or products that might increase their profitability. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

2. Your Mailing Response Rates Are Falling

If you do direct mail or have an list of newsletter subscribers, then this is a key warning sign to look out for. If people are no longer responding to your mails or opening your emails, then you're doing something wrong. Hire an ad copywriter or get some copywriting books to increase your business' marketing chops.

3. You Don't Keep Track Of Your Costs

This is one that can spiral out of control . You need to keep track of your business costs. Preferably, hire an accountant that can do your books for you. If that's out of your budget, a simple income statement (costs and profits) will suffice. If you don't do this, you won't know if your business is making a profit or not. It's easy to overspend on advertising without keeping track of your results.
