Conversions are easily calculated. If you have a list of 1000 people and of those leads only 300 open the emails sent, then your conversion rate is 30%. For some niches this is great for others not so much. There is a myriad of variables involved. Your task is to see how you can increase your conversion rate, typically through trial and error. Your second task is to get that 30% that did open the email to then purchase whatever product you are selling.
This is what people overlook. The higher quality your list is, the better your conversion rate and the more likely you are to see profits. As you begin to build your list you should keep a few things in mind. It's important to stay in contact with your list. The longer it sits unused the colder each lead will get. If you receive emails from your list, answer them promptly either through an auto responder or even better,, directly yourself.
Always be thinking of better ways to engage your list. Not every email needs to be a promotion. In fact, the more informational emails you send with vital information the more likely it is that your subscribers will begin to see you as an authority in your niche. Clients are much more likely to purchase from someone they know if knowledgeable and trustworthy. If I had to put it into words, I would give one golden rule - treat your list like a cherished commodity.
