I have learned a lot since I started internet marketing in the summer of 2008. (I can't list it all here but here are a few of the most important things):
Most people give up too early... Period.

Most newbies start marketing online thinking they need to generate thousands of visitors to their website daily, and everything else will simply fall into place.
I can tell you right now that I have built successful affiliate businesses sending far less traffic than that (but I sent that traffic to a lead capture page, and built a list of targeted prospects that I could market to over & over again...this is the power of email marketing to a targeted subscriber list).
So if any newbies are reading this (and want to get started with affiliate marketing like I did) here are my 3 tips:
1. Focus on driving targeted traffic to a squeeze page where you can collect opt-ins. If you don't build a list, it will be the single biggest mistake of your affiliate/internet marketing career.
2. Write a follow-up email series that focuses on solving peoples problems (with "recommendations" for your product(s) mixed in), but do not hard sell them.
3. Sell affiliate programs that offer recurring income for each sale (such as membership sites or software monthly fees). This way, you can make money month after month, year after year from a customer that you sold ONE product to.
Of course there are some nuances to all of these...but the basics are there. Don't make this more complicated than it needs to be!
