When formulating an email marketing strategy for your company or website there are a few common mistakes that are often times made. These mistakes can result in a loss of customers and can also devalue your overall email marketing strategy. Learn from the mistakes of others and avoid these common blunders.
Mistake #1: Don't add people to your mailing list who did not ask to be added. Many companies will simply begin adding people to their mailing list whom they have purchased contact information for or have obtained it from other resources online. Never "dry" email contacts! Only email people who originally signed up and asked to be added to your email list.
Mistake #2: Don't overuse your mailing list. Many companies will send out multiple emails every week or month. If a person begins receiving an obscene amount of emails from your company they will unsubscribe from your mailing list, block your email address or report all your emails as spam.
Mistake #3: Don't sell or trade your mailing list contacts with other companies or organizations. If you do this and an original subscriber to your list discovers that you have sold or traded their personal information, they will lose trust in your company and will most likely begin to spread the word that your company does not protect the privacy of their customers properly.
