I'm a fan of 2 kinds of advertising: Paid advertising, and Free advertising. And when it comes to the internet, I'm free advertising all the way. Now don't get me wrong, I still advertise online, but it's only in places where I can get the most value for my money. I would never spend $1 a click on a PPC search engine only to see my advertising funds evaporate within a matter of days.
It's time to get smarter with your advertising also. And along with making your advertising work, you will want to incorporate a few free advertising methods also. Free advertising works wonders on the web, and when done right, can cause an explosion of traffic to your website.

Since you and I are more than likely to be in a different niche from each other, you should know that these strategies will work regardless of what you sell and your business type. So shall we get started? Here's the first traffic tip that you should be doing:
1) Social bookmarking
This is a fairly easy concept to understand. I once heard this famous internet marketer say that he got over 200,000 hits to his website in one day via the use of social bookmarking. My guess is that he was on the first page of the social bookmarking site, and because of its high ranking, it attracted alot of attention. Unfortunately, out of all of the 200,000 people that came to his website... NONE of them bought anything.
I found this to be very surprising. And it's a lesson in and of itself. Sure you may get a surge of traffic from the social bookmarking sites, but if they don't convert for you, what's the point of doing it? You're better off focusing your energies on techniques that get you sales.
But sometimes, people do get sales from this kind of traffic. There are bloggers who have something called "Google Adsense" ads on their blog, and whenever someone get clicks through their ad, they get paid for it. So if you have a celebrity blog and someone who is famous is in the news... you could be the first person to post about it, and get pushed up to the top of the results - thus resulting in a ton of free traffic for you.

I like article marketing because it helps me to build my brand. Now I'm all about direct response marketing, and it's something that I practice in my business. But with article marketing, you can make a name for yourself very quickly within a niche. Simply write up 400-500 word articles and submit them to the top article directories.
You'll get traffic from the article directory itself, and from website owners who decide to publish your article on their website. So you get traffic in 2 ways here. I would stick with the top 5 article directories, and then go on your merry way. And DON'T use an article submitter also.
These 2 tips for getting free traffic to your website really do work, and I advise that you start using them today. They both are simple and easy to use, and the more work you put into it, the more you'll be able to see yourself earning alot of money from your efforts. So keep this in mind.
