Choosing the right Kindle Niche plays a big role in the amount of success you will experience. Even the best written book will not sell well if their isn’t an active market for its topic.

The best Kindle niches have plenty of active buyers who want to learn as much as they possibly can about a particular topic. Remember competition is not something you should be afraid of on Kindle because people who are interested in a subject will rarely buy only one book. If for example you love mystery novels you will not buy one but as many as you can read. Or if you are fanatical triathlete you will want to read all of the information and memoirs you can get your hands on.

This can require a rethink in the way that you approach your market selection because many of us marketers are used to looking for non-competitive markets. However very few if any categories on Kindle are saturated. The reason is that the potential demand for books on any given topic is virtually endless.

There are a number of other advantages to go into a market which already has a lot of popular books. One of these is the Listmania results. It is a well known marketing tactic to create your own listmania list and place your book on it. This List will then appear when other books on that topic are searched for. Of course if the niche that you are in has a lot of popular books then your listmania list is going to appear more often.

The same applies to “Customers who bought this item also bought” which appears on the books description. Books that are in a popular niche will have their description read more often. If you have made the “customers who bought this item also bought” list for that book then you are going to get a lot of eyeballs on your book.

The one exception to the popular niche rule is the bestseller lists. A popular category is going to have a best seller list which is harder to break into. However even some very popular categories have books in the best seller list with an Amazon best seller rank above 100,000. In this case you would only need to sell about 1 book a day to break onto the best seller list. You can easily achieve this with a little external marketing of your book. Then the momentum that being on the best seller list creates will help you to retain your position.

Overall it is much easier to sell a lot of books in categories which already have popular books inside of them. If you can find a category which has a lot of popular books but with a best seller list that is “crackable” then you have the perfect combination.
