The Monday after Thanksgiving, Cyber Monday is perceived by many as the unofficial kickoff of the online shopping season.   • Cyber Monday happens this year on November 26.
  • Online sales activity actually starts ramping up 3 weeks prior to Cyber Monday.     • the number of Cyber Monday shoppers grew by 37% (compared to 2010)
    • price trumped brand in 2011 (price, free shipping, coupons/special offers all trumped brand/store name) -- so make sure your social shopping platform supports sales/promotions
  • Here are some interesting survey results, also from 2011 (Deloitte LP)
    • 44% of consumers planned to use Social Media for Holiday Shopping.
    • 57% planned on using social sites to find discounts
    • 49% planned on using social sources to find gift ideas
  • the next big shopping event ("Green Monday", December 10th for 2012) has, historically, been the second highest online sales day of the year (after Cyber Monday). So Cyber Monday is just the start -- be prepared to keep on cashing in the whole Holiday Season!
