Segment Your List

When building your lists you always need to be segmenting your lists otherwise your business is going to be a complete shambles. Once someone has purchased one of your products you need to put them onto a customer list. If you mix customers with prospects then your customers will be getting more emails from you selling a product which they have already purchased. This is a recipe for complete disaster and you will quickly lose your hard earned customers.

Good combination of Free Content and Promotions

One of the worst things most list builders do is send too much free information to their subscribers. If you do this then you will end up conditioning your subscribers to always expect free content. What you need to do is have a good balance of free content along with paid offers. A great strategy to use is the "soft sell" strategy where you give out a great piece of content and then at the bottom of the email you recommend a product. This works very well because you are providing value while at the same time promoting an offer and not just conditioning your subscribers to always expect free content.

Keep in Regular Contact

Another big mistake most people make is not staying in regular content with their subscribers. By not emailing enough you will end up getting the "who the hell is this guy" treatment and people will either just not bother opening any more of your emails or just unsubscribe.

The best way to get over this problem is to have a good number of follow up emails in place when ever someone joins your list, that way you can drip feed content to them on a regular basis on auto-pilot. You should be focusing on creating as many follow ups as you can spanning many weeks and even many months. Some people may buy on their first look at your sales page others may buy after their 30th look so by having a good number of follow up emails in place you increase your chances of not only making more sales and profits but also keeping in regular contact with your subscribers and keeping them engaged and responsive.
