Research provides the best writers with a strength separating them from the others. Poor writers charging only a little bit per article, usually spend very little time or effort researching. If you want to produce high quality content for clients, your website/blog or for any other reason, it starts with research.

Avoid article directories

One of the worst places to research is an article directory. Many low quality writers (the penny per word variety) simply pull an article from EzineArticles or another popular directory, rewrite it and sell it to their clients as quality content. This is not quality. If you want proper research, you need to avoid the article directories even if the content sounds good.

The reason I don't recommend using article directories for research, they are not trustworthy. Nearly anything can be posted on an article directory and you won't know if the stats or facts were verified by the writer. It's better to avoid directories altogether. Even though some articles on the directories are well written, it's just not a chance you want to take.

Researching for SEO (search engine optimization)

A very popular way good writer's research, when expected to write content for SEO purposes, they do a Google search. It makes sense, if your client wants to rank high on Google; you need to know what currently ranks high. Your research should include the top listings from Google for the keyword phrase of the content. Usually these listings will give you quite a bit of good information about the topic and can point you to other credible sources.

Sometimes Google doesn't return the best results, for whatever reason. When this happens, you may want to try searching Bing and Yahoo, as well. Both these search engines provide good results, which may vary from Google a bit. This can help you create content, which provides a full spectrum of SEO benefits.

The Library and Credible Sources

Most writers won't venture out to the library or use credible sources they can find online because they're too difficult to find or hard to understand. Using trade journals, books, newspapers and magazines can provide incredibly relevant, high quality content to use for research. This method may take a little longer to formulate your content, however, it will give you higher quality research and you will gain the trust of your readers much easier.

By avoiding simple research sites, such as the article directories and using only the best available sources, you can create high quality content without worrying about using fictitious stats or unverified facts. Stick to the sources full of reliable content and when you find a good source, make sure to add it to your bookmarks.
