The page RPM

What is page RPM.
RPM is an acronym for revenue per thousand impressions. It was formerly known as CPM (cost per thousand impressions) but when you're talking about web publishers, the use of "cost" was not appropriate so it was replaced by "revenue".

Most web publishers used to be paid on per impression model, especially in the beginning of the internet. Advertisers would purchase banner impressions either directly or through an intermediary.

Adsense, which is essentially a PPC platform (publishers get paid for each click rather than impressions), had to introduce the RPM in order for web publishers to realize how Google's product was superior in most cases over the old per impression model.

What is a good RPM? Depending on your traffic, it can be anywhere between $0.5 to $100. Adsense offers the best RPMs in the business (and I have tested quite a lot of options).

How to increase RPM.
Usually the RPM is influenced by different factors such as traffic quality, niche of your website and the end result for advertisers. For instance, in the same niche, advertisers may pay more for US traffic and much less for international traffic which converts less for them. Visitors looking for immediate financial solutions might earn you more income than let's say a joke website because they have a real need for a product and the general revenue generated in this market is higher than in general entertainment.
