If you were to take an ebook that you are selling and get a $10 commission, if your monthly income goal is $5,000 then you will need to generate 500 sales each month. Most very successful internet marketers can't even get to that number and frankly I don't think that new affiliates can either.
What if you took that same ebook and get a commission for $50? How many sales would you need to achieve your income goal of $5,000? You would then need to make 100 sales. 100 sales is a lot easier than 500.
Now what would happen if you again take that same ebook, got paid $50 commission, and the customer bought more in the back end that banks you another $200 commissions. You would only need about 16 of those sales per month if every customer bought those other upsells. 16 sale per month to reach $5,000 is far easier then having to get 500 sales for an ebook that banks you only $10 per sale.

Now most affiliates think that people will not be willing to pay more money then $10-$20 for something that can pretty much solve their problem. These affiliates are wrong. A lot of people are willing to spend anywhere between $100-$1,000. This has been tested time and time again over the years and it is totally true. You would be amazed.
Another way to earn more money with affiliate programs is that you must also work with programs that can pay you residual income. A lot of people are willing to pay a monthly fee of some sort of a monthly membership participation.
