Over 1 billion in scams...

The U.S. Special Committee on Aging last week said over 1 billion dollars had been scammed from older people just last year.

Most of the scams involved AI that can replicate a person's voice...

older people got a call that a relative was in danger or needed help. It sounded exactly like the relative and convinced the receiver of the call to send money.

Over 1 billion dollars of scam money.

Also, Altman, a co-founder of OpenAi was fired by the board last week. Then Brockman another co-founder quit.

Then the board was considering bringing Altman back...

then Microsoft hired both Altman and Brockman.

Crazy times in AI right now

BIG win for Microsoft in my opinion. I think what you have now are those who know a little about A.I. believing they know enough to control or at least question those who DEVELOPED the programs.

Again - big win for MS on this one.

News today was that 500 openai employees are threatening to quit unless the board resigns.

Bad management decisions have been taking companies down a few notches - target, Anheuser-Busch, etc. The new owner of the Miss Universe pageant managed to bankrupt the pageant in less than a year.

I wrote my last post a little too fast...

what I meant to say is over 700 of their 770 total employees.

If they do leave, I'm wondering how chatGPT will still be able to operate?

    Yeah!
Heard about those scams. Crazy how AI's making voice replication scams more convincing.
And yeah, the OpenAI drama's wild. Altman and Brockman joining Microsoft adds another twist to the AI scene. Strange times, for sure.

There's a whole industry built around TECH SUPPORT CALL CENTER SCAMS targeting older people in the USA

There are even tie up withs scam call centers and the OLD SCHOOL "aluminum siding" scam that's been victimizing the 65+ crowd for AGES.

    Be careful out there

    1) MOST scammahs are YOUNG an' IRRESPONSIBLE -- an' they view the OLD as FAIR GAME.

    2) The BEST scammahs are OLD an' CONNECTED -- an' they view the OLD as FAIR GAME.

Given the rise in AI-driven scams targeting older individuals, it's crucial to educate seniors on recognizing and verifying callers, especially those claiming to be relatives in distress. Encourage them to independently confirm the caller's identity before sending any money. As for the recent developments in the AI world, the shifts in leadership and moves by major companies like Microsoft underscore the dynamic nature of the industry. Stay informed and vigilant amidst these changing landscapes.
