How to get into Google News

by PPG19

I have a client who was rejected twice. They haven't explained the reason why the site was rejected.
The website has all the ("technical") requirements in place and the articles are top quality in my opinion. Any advice on how to get him into Google News?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I do not know what you mean by getting into google news. It is a news site. Be in the news, be newsworthy.

Sorry but i don't understand your answer. They haven't give an explanation on why the site has been rejected twice.

I don't know much about this. I thought somebody could have helped by having a look at the site...

looking at the site is meaningless. Are you in the news, are you newsworthy.

Are you submitting a press release? Just because you meet the requirements, it does not mean you are newsworthy and meet their standards

Yes the articles are really well written by more than 50 different authors.

      Submitting press releases where?

He means getting approved by Google as an authorized news source, not being in the news.

Ah, it helps to have schema (?) set up right on your site. Well anyway, one of those latest technical jargon things for Google. It sets it as news.

    Hi PPG,

Your client needs to get really really, really really good at what they do. Like, really clear, on offering immense value, to a wide range of people. Like, as in, your client needs to build their network every day, by establishing 1 to 1 bonds with top pros in their niche, then keep sharing value across multiple channels online.

I have been covered by 3 major media outlets. The secret for getting coverage on major media outlets - or on Google news - is to spend years getting darn good at what you do, while building your network.

Ain't no hack there Just good old fashioned, passionate service over years of time.

This is why it is difficult to get featured on Google News, or anywhere of note. Most people try to rush it. Few are patient enough in doing the right things to get news coverage by major media.

Select the "news" vertical in Google and do a site search (e.g. site:example.com). As seen below, you will be able to see how many (if any) results appear in the news vertical. If you do, then your work here is done. Enjoy your inclusion in Google News!

My sympathy PPG19 - so many dumb-ass blah-blah BS comments in this thread by people who have no clue what you or they are talking about...
I don't think there are any shortcuts here, as one of the constructive responses said. I agree that even when you think you have met every technical requirement, you still get rejected. I have two suggestions:
    a) Don't forget that Bing has a similar feature. Just because Google rejects you doesn't mean that Bing won't although there seem to be fewer sites indexed by Bing News.
    b) Try limiting your news content to some kind of very narrow niche where Google can't see much in the way of competition. (I have an unproven theory that competition is a factor in their decision making.) If what you're publishing is unique then I think your chances are improved. Once you've been accepted you can try broadening your subject reach.
Good luck. If any of this works please don't forget to update the thread!

Thanks Steven. We are still working on it... but will update as soon as we get a response from Google.

I have no recent experience but it is even harder now to be accepted. Also you can't guess at what they accept by looking at what they already have because some of the GN's sites are grandfathered in so-to-speak.

In the past the biggest hurdles...

Not exactly spelled out in their guidelines but through trial and error:
    • Articles had to be current "news" not how-to or informational content.
    • They hate even a hint that a site is disguised as a news site when it's primary purpose is promotional.
    • Content had to be professional journalistic quality.
    • Authors did not have to be journalists but they did have to be verifiable people not using pen names.
    • For most niches - sites that were accepted posted a minimum of 10 articles per day.

There might be more but those are a few things that come to my mind.

We submitted the site once again. I am confident we meet all the requirements but we are definitely not reaching 10 articles per day. This might be the reason why we were rejected.

Hoping for the best... Will update ASAP.
