I'm based in London, UK. I'm trying to put together a singles event. I don't have a website so it will be social media I'm relying on. I don't mind to pay for advertising but how much will it cost normally? anyone here promote events on facebook?

try to contact reviews sites to list your event
also i dont know about fb ads
i have tried but thats useless for me
the best is to contact review site to list your event and broadcast to all
    rather inviting individuals

If you will create a fb page with a post for that event and promote that "post" it shouldn't be very expensive.

Be sure to only promote the post in your area. You should be able to select where (city) you want to promote it when creating your ad.

Exactly correct. Always remember to target the right audience according to your age, sex, geography and interests. Otherwise it will be just just a waste.

    2. Groups. Talk to group admin and ask them to announce it.
    3. Pages. Talk to page owner and ask them to announce it.
    4. Announce it yourself to your followers.

It is very important that your event should not be more expensive. If you create an event from your personal Profile then you will have the ability to message all invitees direct into their inbox. You must optimize you facebook event page and always use a Company page to promote the event.

The more Facebook Likes, retweets, LinkedIn shares etc. on your blog posts and web pages the more visitors will perceive your content as being popular and will also want to share by social share buttons to the event registration page and also blurb to your Facebook Page banner with the maximum dimensions of 180px by 540px. The main thing is Encourage the audience to engage and share.
