    The best niche?

The one you know inside and out.

Not the answer you want, but that's the answer. When you know the niche, you know the consumer.

When you know the consumer? You know how to give them what they want - and profit.

Ah, now I understand. The grammar threw me off (no offence). You propose we isolate a profitable niche, one that we may not understand at present, and - through study - become an expert in the niche.

I agree, mate. Nothing wrong with that idea.

Yes, you can become an expert (usually over a long time of effort and study) in a niche where you don't have passion . . . but why choose the long hard road? To me, I'd rather go into a niche where I have passion and advantage.

Advantage comes when you already have interest, knowledge, passion, experience, training, or education in the subject. You have a head start. You know more about the niche than the average person. In other words, you go into the niche with some level of authority and you don't have to guess so much regarding your target audience.

Yes, you can choose the long hard road and enter a niche you know nothing about . . . or you can choose the better, faster, smarter path of going into a niche where you already have an advantage over others and begin making money in short order.

I agree to follow your passion but only if it´s profitable. If its not a profitable niche is just not profitable and you won´t make any money.

Also many people focus on several niches to build their online businesses and not just one or two. You will probably run out of niches that you are passionate about and will have to explore new ideas, so you will have to study them.

This is the job of a marketer. Study, do the research and market the idea.

What do you need to know? Do you think the owner(s) of the news outlets write their own content. Do you think 100% of sites online today was produced by the owner? How about those many amazon sites you run across? Do you actually think they know everything about what they promote? Do you think those amazon affiliate sites wrote their own content? If so, then you must think they do their own seo as well.

I bet you 9 out of 10 sites have no idea about
the products they promote, and I also bet they
do not write their own content or perform their
own SEO. Some sites do produce their own
limited content, however, I bet most of these
            sites simply outsource the work.

If I sell VCRs what do you need to know...?
how to stick the tape in? If you need the specs,
then look at the manual. It is not my job to
explain to you how to hook the vcr to the TV.
If it is broken, then send it back....

I do not need to squat about anything...
and it seems I am doing quite well....

The best niche for 2018 is "Knowing How to Recognize a Profitable Niche Before Others". Most people can't, so they're limited to jumping on a niche after the Guru's, experts, and their millions of followers have sucked it dry or they have to ask others, who can only speculate with broad answers like you're receiving in this post.

One of the most common themes on this board is whether you should follow your passion or follow the money.

Passion is a strong word. Many, if not most, potential marketers might well struggle to identify any topic about which they feel truly passionate, let alone one that's also potentially lucrative. It's likely that anyone with a real passion for something is already doing it - either as a living or as an all-consuming hobby. And the problem with following the money is that, by itself, money is a poor motivator.

A better angle might be to cultivate your curiosity. Become interested in a variety of topics - and not just those with an obvious monetary advantage. Having broad interests stimulates the creative mind; you'll find that one topic leads to another, which suggests further topics, and so on. It's hard to remain truly interested in just a single subject - your enthusiasm is almost certain to spread across other related fields. In time, your interests will throw up one or more clear ideas for a niche or market you'd be happy to immerse yourself in.

But it starts with being interested. Getting curious about things. About life.

How about the one YOU know the most about and can add the most value to the future tribe you're going to help? I'd rather have 50 people I can help that know like and trust me because I offer value to them than having a list of 1000 that are cold and have no idea who I am. I'd make WAY more money off those 50.

AND...try getting into a niche you have no real love for...how long do you think you'll stick it out?

    Great point.

Proof: I have a long-time friend that has fewer than 100 subscribers to his business list, but he does something like $16K/month (about $200K/year) by providing great value to his "followers" who pay him $199/mo for his newsletter advisory service. It's valuable information that can't be found elsewhere. He gets no complaints and has almost no customer support issues.

It's an extremely efficient, easy and lucrative business model but he is a true expert in the field, not someone that "studied" only in the niche. He had his advantage when he went into business because he has both passion and expertise (a deadly combination).

No need for multiple niches here. No need for outside marketing help. He does everything in his business himself and his few customers are very loyal because they get way more than their money's worth.

The answer for 2018 is the same as every other year.

There is no "best" niche. And if such a thing existed no one would be willing to share that information.

The sweet spot is something you already know about (or are willing to learn about) and where there is already a paying market.

This takes some time and effort on your part to find. This is what makes the difference between an entrepreneur and an employee. One needs to be told what to do and the other is willing to put in the time and effort to figure some things out on their own. I don't mean you can't ask specific questions or get help but then you have to take the information and make the investment of time and money. It's always a risk.

That's why most people quit. Or spend year after year coming back here with the same types of questions but never DO anything.

Rose's rant over. And this not directed so much at the OP as just my thoughts about many of the current posters.

Lots of people have addressed your first question, and I tend to agree with the ones that say you should choose a niche in which you have some sort of advantage.

To your second question, about "viral" content and Adsense...

You'd probably be better off betting on horse races, buying lottery tickets, or playing the nickel slots.

First off, you have to find a keyword that has a relatively high CPC on the content network. I've seen many people get excited about a phrase that costs $10/click on the search network, which is what tools like the keyword planner show you, only to find the same phrase pays less than a dollar on the search network.

Then you have to have the "viral" part. Despite what people selling "how to go viral" information tell you, a truly viral piece of content just happens. And usually it's some sort of entertainment, like cat videos, or fathers getting hit in the crotch by toddlers, which have little commercial value.

Third, even if you defy the long odds and cover the first two, you have to rely on the advertiser to create ads that generate clicks. This is not something you can control. In fact, one "expert" recommends using Adwords for branding - creating ads for the content network that build name recognition but offer very little reason to click. No clickee, no money.

So there are at least three things you have to have to make any appreciable money with Adsense and content, two of which are outside your control.

I just figured out the best niche for 2017 and it is the same as it was in 2016, and 2015. It was a little slow in 2014 but 2013 it was fantastic. I am thinking that 2019 will be great.

And that niche is.......................it does not really matter

Because, it is a niche I am in and like and connect with. Some here might connect with the niche as well while others would not go any where near it.

It is my niche, I found it. So, find your own

The best niche in 2018? It is really not a one-size-fits-all solution. There are many things you need to consider. If you ask me I'd say, Fan merchandise is evergreen. You can also sell animal rings, quirky gadgets, phone accessories, vlogging accessories.

A good idea is to check with the keyword on Google Trends to see if it's growing and then select one accordingly.

It's a bit of an open ended question, somebody could mention any number of niches that they are having success in but that does not mean you will too.

Said person will have a different skill set to you, different budget, mentality and set up etc.

No one can really tell you what a good niche is because if you don't apply yourself or have a good game plan its pointless.

In saying that Crypto is an excellent niche for 2018 but you will have to know how to position yourself to bank cash.

While your marketing effort will be primarily to reach your ideal customer, you should also consider your broader audience.

This will help you develop your business in the long run. Consider the demographics of your ideal client, such as age, education, gender, salary, and occupation. There may be other potential customers in the same population.

    • Understand the interests of your ideal customer.

    • Consider the interests of visitors; they may want similar products and services.

    • Understand the environment and mindset your customers have.

    • People visit your site for a specific purpose. Expand this purpose and call on more visitors.

The best niche for 2018 is the niche that you know a lot about and something that you are passionate about. I've seen people that have turned their passion into something very creative and new, and now that turned that passion into a money maker. Look at KRS channel. Yeah, it's about astrology. Horoscope is a very high volume search term, but this guy is different. He made an entertaining YouTube Channel around the idea and made it into a big money making thing that makes him happy.

Good question, people can guess but in the end I guess we will need to wait and see.

Some niches that I see doing well:
    Make Money Online
    Financial/Debt/Loans
    Credit Reports
    Diet/Health
    Dating

One could say weight loss is an ever-green niche.
(and that means the niche will never die, unless a super
weight loss diet pill comes out that is proven not to kill you....)

I have given you a clue, now what?

Just because I can make $5,000/mo in a niche
does not mean you will get the same results...

It can take a long time to get a weight loss site off the ground,
and for a low comp niche, it still make take 10-12 months for
your site to show any movement at all....

whats your next move? you are most likely thinking you
can do it better then the next guy that has been around
for many years. I would say people lose interest fairly
quickly because cash is not flowing as fast as they dreamed
about, spent a few dollars on SEO here and there going nowhere...

setting up, and running a profitable site is for the long haul...
these people may incur great expense, and do not expect much
to happen within the 1-2 years of the sites life....

If you expect fast cash... then you must have the
next worlds next invention at your finger tips, otherwise
it will be a slow path through hell before you really
see any signs of life from your site, and if your ranking
is not going up or even tanks, then analyze on what
you may not be doing right, and could be any number of factors.

If you are not an ad expert, then stay away from FB/Google,
you just about need to be a guru in itself because you may
have to put up $100s of dollars on trial and error...You did not
think you was going to place one ad, and that would send
you down a golden road to salvation, did you?

nerve of some people setting up a site, and know nothing
about A/B Spilt testing, Conversion/testing, or ad marketing...
they often know nothing about SEO or anything else for that
matter, and they only thing they know is they want to make money...
    (and thats it...)

  • What you can do is start with niches that you are interested in. It will help narrow down your choices and it's easier to work with niches that you actually like.

Then, you do market research and look at which niches would make you the most money. What niches have market demographics can can buy what you're selling? What specific niches can you compete in? Where can you provide the most value so you can create a loyal customer base?

When you use your passion and good judgement to guide you. It will keep you motivated to stay in IM for the long run.

The best niche is the one that you are willing to work at, day in and day out. What ever niche you choose should have a large consumer base that is looking for answers to their problem.

There are many niches online that have a following. You just have to pick one that you want to do and are willing to make it successful.

I'm not going to lie. There is a lot of work involved, a lot of learning involved, and most of your free time spent promoting your niche. There is no push-button online marketing job.

Finding a niche can be tricky.

I've got 4 unorthodox ways for you to brainstorm a niche:

    1. Click the Random Article on the Wikipedia home page and see if you discover an appealing niche.

    2. Examine my mega list of hobbies.

    3. Check out Google Trends' trending searches by category

    4. Click "Random" in the menu of Reddit.com and examine random Subreddits or peruse this list of all Subreddits.

    5. Examine this list of Thumbtack local services.

Remember, you want to choose a niche with products you can promote! Other than that, you're relying on display ad revenue- which is viable, but the big wins come from affiliate content, especially early on.
