Where do I start with internet marketing?

I am a web developer and designer and graphic designer. But I don't really want to do this anymore, instead I want to focus on selling my online products and services other than web design.

Sure I can toss some money at Adwords but I also read that it just isn't cost-effective anymore especially if you are in a competitive market.

I could of course collect emails and start sending out newsletter campaigns. But that takes a lot of work. Same with writing regular blogs to improve SEO.

Where do I start? How do I increase sales on my website without breaking the bank or wasting money on marketing companies? Marketing companies want at least $30,000 per year NOT including hundreds of thousands in advertising. When in reality, the only thing going to generate you any money really, is the advertising with a small bit in the other stuff, but you are paying them for the other stuff so basically throwing away 30 grand you could have just also invested into advertising, or something else.

So unless your company just has an extra 30 grand to spare like pocket change, it isn't worth it to hire a marketing company.

Please offer some tips and guidance. I am working out of my own pocket so my funds are limited.

    Hey,

One thing I learned is that to make it online, you need to learn some skills and be consistent with them. When it comes to online marketing, you need to be able to write, make videos and know marketing.

I see that you dont really enjoy writing much, but that maybe also because you don't know that it could be fun. For example when you are writing email sequences, you have to tell stories to keep your audience's attention. Stories are what sell in todays world. This could be used in blogs also.
My advice on trying to get yourself a different perspective on writing is to read a book called "All marketers tell stories" by seth godin AND OR "Story wars".

Now, if you want to get more sales, you should master 1 or 2 at most, social media channels. Like Youtube and Facebook. There you can make videos with or without your face (use slideshow presentations if you don't like to be on camera much). You want to get on these channels to start getting attention/potential followers and then customers.

Paid and Free marketing both work if you know how to use them and its a good idea to build a business on both. Since you dont want to break the bank, focus 90% more on Free traffic untill you make money.

    I hope this helped somewhat.

your screen is way different from mine. I see zero black boxes. I see three tiny blue links at the bottom. Thanks, Reply, and Report. That's it. When I click Reply this box opens up, a WYSIWYG editor. There is a red box to the right that says "Reply". We are clearly looking at different themes.

How do I switch back to your normal theme? They must have forced me into some beta theme.

UPDATE: I found it finally. I have to SWITCH TO CLASSIC button under my profile at the top. I hate this new stupid theme and wanted to have a regular forums. Now all is right with the world.

Well, (rolling up my sleeves, not easy with a T-shirt) l have done what you have and am currently doing.

Spent years with product creation, revitalizing old, but still good PLR products, (the product image needed updating) web design, or creating sites, (and l did all of the visuals myself) for years on end, with not much to show than Adsense pocketmony, l think, (the new stupid Adsense, doesn't show amounts anymore).

And yeah, others seem to still make Adwords work, but at $5 upwards near impossible to pull that off anymore. Espically when the days of linking to a squeeze page, or Clickbank product are gone.

Also paid others to create software, and l did the graphics part, and the list goes on...

I couldn't give you much advise on funneling traffic, (social media is a joke, also tried that for a good 6 months, which makes pocket money look like a step up) but using your graphic talents in another way, l might be able to offer another option?

Have you considered, designing products for Graphicriver or Creativemarket?

Both have their own traffic, so that problem is gone, and sure CM, requires a folio and review to get a shop there but that isn't that hard to do.

I am doing quite well there with flyers, eventhough it is a saturated market, but l can or have learned how to do them faster than most, so that gives me an edge.

GR's, (since they review every one of your products, and can be strict) can be tricky initially, but they also sell more than CM, although CM, once in, has no review on products, and sells almost as well as GR.

    Good luck.

Do you know who your target audience is?
You could look at bingads, it's a good cheaper alternative to AdWords.

Facebook ads can work well if you can target properly.

Internet marketing is quite broad, but I recommend starting with social media. It's free to create a Page on Facebook, or an account on Instagram and Twitter. It's the platform where you can reach the most people because everybody has a social media account. Creating campaigns, though, will be tedious. But you don't have to hire a marketing company. You can start with a virtual assistant that you can split tasks with.
