    Well, I think, there are reasons to use press releases, but I cant say that it would be a successful SEO tactic as nowadays most people use the Internet in order to find or look for for something. If you haven't start promoting, I guess, it's better to begin with using social media.

    I have used press releases several times with not much results, they are really not used by pros much anymore,

    Today the best backlink/SEO tactics are:

    1. Blog commenting with your link.
    2. Forum Profiles Links.
    3. Guest Post with backlinks.
    4. Article submissions with your links in directories.
    5. Social Profiles Links.

    Press releases just to get links hasn't worked in many years. Even a couple years ago PRs were only useful if they were picked up by magazines and major bloggers. So they have to be newsworthy which is not what PR for SEO usually is.

    If you've established a network of journalists who follow you in social media and you follow them also then you can leverage traffic from a good press release but you need to have built your connections and relationships first and then be prepared to back your content via paid promotion along with your PR.

    So for SEO not so much but still valuable if you know how to leverage a good story and get it in the hands of those who can make a difference.

    Using press releases can be challenging nowadays. Also, it can be more complicated than creating typical SEO articles. It has to be well-structured to be effective. Worked just fine years ago, but then again, it has become problematic to use them now. It's become unpopular, as well. I suggest that you engage and invest in more profitable, updated SEO techniques. -Micah
