Starting out affiliate marketing! Could someone please destroy my unrealistic expectations?

Hey...

I saw a lot of youtube videos about affiliate marketing and they all follow the same story...

It all begins with facebook ads in order to build your list. In the funnel, you also promote a product on the thank you page.

You get 2% conversions on the thank you page, but you are still losing money,
That's when email marketing comes into place... You promote products to your list and you will break even after a while.

After some time, you will promote products running on profit with a happy ending for our story

But my guess is that most people are not making any money at all and I wonder WHY...

Are they promoting the wrong offers?
I guess not, every top offer on clickbank seems very professional and has great numbers behind it.

Are they screwing up with the landing page/thank you page ?
I think you can't screw that bad with them, there are 100000 of templates available and just pick the one that has some congruency with the products you promote.

Are they choosing the wrong audience, making bad FB ad copies?
Fb advertising is pretty tough. Maybe this makes a huge difference between the profitable advertisers and the others who don't earn any money..

Are they leaving too much money on the table with email marketing?
I feel that email marketing is the money maker, but I may be wrong, so that's why I'm asking for some advice on my thoughts

So, where this system (FB ads + email marketing) goes wrong for most people ?
Patterns among successful advertisers and unsuccessful ones?

Cheers,

Eugen

While this might be a framework that works. Not every campaign will be successful. It can take a long time to find a winning campaign and most people just give up too early.

When you first start a campaign, you're goal should be to collect data (not make money). Once you have enough data, you can adjustments based off that data and eventually it should lead into making money.

Giving up too early is definitely a problem, but also, there are a lot of variables to a successful campaign. The offer, the targeting, the time of day your email goes out, the color of your buy button, the trust factor, and on and on. Get any one of these wrong and you may have a flop.

We are talking about selling here, which is an art and takes testing and tweaking. Many people don't know that.

There are huge ad agencies, whose sole purpose is to sell products for major corporations, and even they don't get it right 100 percent of the time, wasting millions (think super bowl ads that flopped).

I think the key is during the testing phase is to not give up.

Move away from stats, expectations and outcomes. Market to follow your passion and to help folks. Detach marketers care less about expectations; they fall in love with the process of learning, practicing, assisting people, building friendships and of course, the profiting feels like icing on the cake.

Best answer, ryan hit the nail on the head with this one. The best thing I've done is exactly that. Move away from stats because you're immediately setting your mind and conditioning yourself to adhere to those stats. Do you, and do your best. In order to succeed in this biz or in any biz really, you HAVE to be what others won't become and do what others don't do, so paying attention to stats that represent what everyone else does makes no sense.

The moment I focused on myself , my own goals, and doing whatever it takes, good things started happening, 2 major partners came in on a project with me, and it all started coming together

Can't we at least forbid posts like this in the Beginner's Area? We're supposed to be trying to help people. This is total hogwash and is the path to financial ruin, for all but the most supremely gifted marketers, I'm assuming.

Did I mention that this is hogwash. Doesn't matter. Needs to be repeated - again and again and again.

I'll take a 3 day ban on this one. My motives were pure.

      Cheers.

Also look at the product you're promoting. How is the sales page? The follow-up? More importantly, the product itself? If you wouldn't buy it, don't expect others too either.

To survive in affiliate marketing today, you have to have an unfair advantage. Find traffic sources with high conversion rates and low cost. Also, leverage relationships in the industry.

Totally agree. Been in the business before CAN-SPAM laws even existed. The transformation of the whole industry is wild. Adwords is about making google money. Fb ads is about making fb money. No one seems to grasp that. You have to be on your A game when developing campaigns and paying for traffic.

  • There are many ways to promote offers, you just have less work with paid ads.

The longer you can keep a person on your email list the more opportunity you have to sell them products. You have to give them some helpful content to keep them around. If you just try to sell them products every email they will opt out with in the first few they get.

You can use social media and youtube to market as well.

affiliate marketing and email marketing take time.

Many people expect to get results from a list of 100 or 1000.

Even if they do get sales on and off, they say that it is not working and they quit, not knowing that the generation of sales shows that the strategy is working.

Too many people focuses on the front end and want quick cash without the building relationship and trust part.

    It's a marathon, not a sprint.

First, if you are not passionate about what you do, it would be hard for you to destroy your unrealistic expectations. Affiliate marketing is a long term project even if a lot of people would have you believe that you can start making money from the first day. Thats not to say people don't make money from the first day. You need to be focused on helping people and building relationships. The money will come in naturally. Also email marketing is the way to go. If you plan to promote a product and you have money to spend on ads i do not advice directing traffic to your sales page etc. Instead, create a lead magnet and send the traffic there so you can capture emails and then market to them through email. You will definitely break even in no time and start making real money. Although there is a lot to email marketing. Read, learn and implement is the way to go. One last thing is never ever give up....

    I hope this helps
