How to increase regular readers to my blog?

I've been working on an urban lifestyle blog which goes by the name of Vibestyle, where the focus of posts are on streetwear, film and TV, and Hip-Hop music.

Vibestyleblog.wordpress.com

The question is, what are the most effective ways of increasing the amount of regular readers? Each of our posts receive only a few views. They are promoted on Facebook, Instagram and twitter via the blog's social media pages.

If you have a minute, I'd be grateful if you could have a look and let me know what you think about the content.

Thanks,

Eugene

Are you using hashtags on your Instagram posts? I would do some research on hashtags, if not. It is the best way to get organic traffic to your website.

Eugene, before you get too deeply involved with promoting your blog (nice start, btw), you should consider changing platforms. Wordpress.com has some severe restrictions on growth and monetization.

If you plan to take your blogging seriously, I'd recommend you purchase your own domain, get your own hosting, and install your own WordPress blog - check out wordpress .org for template ideas.

    • Thanks, I've been looking at the Wordpress subscriptions and I'm thinking about using the professional service. Have you had any experience in the past using any of the Wordpress packages? Or is it just best to stay clear of WP due to its restrictions?

I'd steer clear of any packages on wordpress.com. They'd always own your site as well as imposing restrictions on what monetization methods you could use.

If you want to use WP, go to wordpress.org where you can download WP for free. Then get your own hosting and domain name. That will give you the freedom to do what you want with your site and open up access to a huge range of open software themes or plugins you might want to use down the line.

        It's not Wordpress that's the problem it's WordPress.com specifically.

WP.com is just for personal use unless you buy at least the Premium package. And that still has limitations.

For less money you can get your own hosting and (install self-hosted Wordpress) have no restrictions as to what you can do with your own blog.

I agree! It makes you more authoritative if you have own domain and it's easier for people to remember the domain

    Hi Eugene,

    Welcome to the blog-o-sphere buddy.

    A few ideas:

    - buy your domain and hosting and get on Wordpress.org immediately; working from a free platform, it's tough to gain credibility, which is one reason why you get a few visitors for each post
    - promote other bloggers in your niche through social, through your blog and by interviewing them; build bonds, and your blogging buddies will promote you, expanding your reach
    - comment genuinely on top blogs in the niche; 3-4 paragraphs, a traffic builder
    - guest post on top blogs in the niche
    - I dig the multiple niches/topics as they seem to inter-mix but think strongly about focusing on a single niche; people love specialists....but generalists....not so much

    Happy Blogging.

Lifestyle blogs can work extremely well.

My daughter runs a similar blog so I have seen how this works.

First off , as everyone has said, bin the free Wordpress.com site. Get your own hosting and domain name. Install Wordpress (.org). Not just credibility but potential all sorts of grief to come later with WP.com (Especially if you start making money).

As far as visitors are concerned then initially focus on facebook. The kind of people that like lifestyle stuff are all over Facebook and very active. But you can't expect them to just find you. You need to build up a Facebook following so that when you post your latest blog post you get instant visitors.

Over time that will boost your blog SEO and authority.

Sure there are plenty of other ways to get traffic but I have seen this done, from scratch, using just the above.

For your posts try and use or leverage from current news stuff. Which celeb is doing what and getting lost of press. So if you want to write about a clothing/style do it to include the newest celeb and see your number go through the roof.

    Good luck

You are spreading yourself thin by covering too many topics if you ask me. I think that you need to narrow down on topics so that you can cover more and show your expertise.

If you want more readers you need to write content with the intent to solve, entertain, educate ,whichever way you choose you must give value.
Headlines are important too.You need to write headlines that intrigue entice readers to click on your blog post.

You must also take the time out to repurpose and re promote your content to keep your post alive.

Use your keywords in your title and sprinkle them throughout your post sparringly.

Last but not least search buzzsumo,Google trends,YouTube to disover highly searched topics in your niche. That is a good way to get more readers flying into your blog.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11340714].message }}
  • Ask your current readers to share your blog posts in exchange for some prize you can offer them (T-shirts, caps or something you can afford to giveaway)

If your content is really good and relevant to your target audience, then it doesn't really matter if you are using paid hosting or a free WordPress blog platform. Obviously paid hosting makes you appear more credible to your blog readers.

But to be honest with you, I've been making money online since 2007 without having paid hosting. So there is a huge possibility that you will be able to increase your online sales too if you keep producing good quality blog posts.

Compile your top ten most viewed blog posts, and turn them into an eBook that you can offer to your blog readers, in exchange for them sharing your blog posts with others who are interested in what you have to offer.

Please step out from the free blog.
    Purchase domain and hosting first.

Make a fb page page for this.

Collect e-mail & also some fb profile who are interested on you.

    Then update everything regularly.

    Thanks.

I would start by moving away from wordpress hosting and getting your own domain/hosting.

How are you promoting the posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram? How many followers do you have? etc?

Hi Eugene! Like many others, I would also recommend switching to the self-hosted Wordpress platform, Wordpress.org. You will need a domain name (choose a top level domain name) and a hosting account. A top level domain name is .com, .net or .org. These tend to get indexed quicker by the search engines and builds trust that is really important.

For traffic, besides the methods you are already using, join a site called Quora.com. Start answering questions related to your niche and link back to your blog. Quora gets a lot of traffic, and so will you when people read your answers.

You can also start your own blog on Quora. If you write unique articles on your Quora blog, the articles will be indexed in the search engines. You link back to your main site.

Another thing you need to do is to build an email list. There is a lot of information on this forum about how this should be done, but you really need one.

Look for forums in your niche, join the biggest ones and start participating. You can get a link back to your site from the signature file. The more you help others, the more you will get traffic.

Buying traffic is also an option. This works really well if you send people to an optin form. There is lots of information about building a "sales funnel" on this forum.

    Hope this helps!

  • The page takes far too long to load, doesn't have a clear design to streamline the user to the most relevant/important posts - those are basic things you should fix immediately, they mean whomever does go to the site (as few as they are) is not getting an optimal experience.

Even if your content is great it isn't fun to wait 10 seconds for the page to load and sort through hastily arranged tiles that don't advertise the post topic well. Research some other popular blogs that are in the same category as yours and try to emulate their style/layouts, you need to get better reader engagement before you can even think about scaling up the viewers.

Once you have that dialed in you can focus on creating the best content possible and trying to network with other bloggers or relevant websites to share your content with their audience (you can offer to share theirs with your audience, but if you create great content there will be people willing to share it for free).

I'm not into music but I can say that, Social media is aready the best way to get someone to read your site. If the visitor don't revisit, the problem is not the method, but is in the content of your site. Check your content and ask "why would I have to visit this twice".

MOZ is the most popular website for Online Marketing and "Whiteboard Friday" video is one of them. It drives a lot of traffic on their blog. Because of his regular posting with Informative Content. Every Friday visitor waits for this "Whiteboard Friday" blog.

Work on writing better content so people stay and keep coming back. If people aren't coming back or staying on your site long it means the content isn't good enough. Not trying to sound harsh just giving my honest opinion. No tactic or secret method is going to help if the content is poor quality.

Try starting a forum. Then regulars will return to your site on a daily basis.

But you'll need a fair bit of traffic first and also users need to be fanatical enough about your niche that they'll bother to register and contribute.
