Best Ways to Monetize Exact Match Domain 1.5 million+ monthly searches?

Hello all,

I am new to the site and thought this may be a good place to start.

Hello, I am looking to monetize a website that is an exact match domain with over 1.5 million searches per month. It is the name of an entertainer , (think something like Justin Bieber dot co.m ) The entertaining is a musician, who is known for the following:

-Trend setter on particular clothing styles

-Brand Ambassador for one of the most recognizable liquors on the market

-A major following overseas and in third world countries, due to their origin story and perception of charitable work.

-In high demand for major performances, as well as paid collaboration with other music artist.

This artist has been increasing in popularity the last 5+ years and is exponentially taking off. Any suggestions on the best ways to increase traffic and monetize a website like this would be appreciated. I am unsure of all of the forum rules and if I am able to post a link to the site. Thank you I look forward to any ideas, suggestions, or introductions to useful contacts!

The entertainer would have trademarked his/her name, so unless you've obtained a licence or permission, any earnings from your site could be swallowed up in damages.

Probably best to find another project.

With such huge traffic you can monetize the website with just Google Adsense.

Charge people to advertise on the website.

You can also sign up to affiliate networks and promote it on the blog

I'd reach out and try to sell it to the entertainer if I were you. It could become a legal nightmare if you start profiting from their name in some other way.

    Just my two cents.

You can't make a single cent on it or you open yourself up to legal issues. The only thing that you can use the domain for is a fan club site that produces zero in revenue.

    Hello SuboxoneDoctor,

There is a simple way to get some money for this site. I will agree with Frank Donovan about the most likely scenario that the entertainer trademarked his name, which means you are left with a little wiggle room there.

However, this does not mean that the traffic coming to this site is worthless to you. I can think of one person that could benefit from full access to this traffic.

Have you thought about actually selling the site ownership to the actual entertainer?

I am sure he/she will be able to greatly monetize this traffic so hopefully, he/she will be willing to pay for it.

At the end of the day, it is not about the fact that you are not able to monetize this traffic. More importantly, it is the entertainer that is not able to monetize it as long as he/she does not have access to it.

    Food for thought.

Good luck and enjoy the process.

I've done well with trademarked domains but I always ask permission first. I would try and contact the entertainer and ask permission.

but what about if the domain name was purchased before the person copyrighted his name?

then would he be able to make money from it?

ie, if someone had purchased the domain name viagra.com years before that drug was even thought of, then would per-purchase of a domain name before it was copyrighted be legal to profit from?

or hungergasmes.com years before the book was ever written?

or harrypotter.com years before the book was ever written?

No, no and no! Go to USPTO.gov and read. Reading is how you get the facts. What you get here are what people believe to be true. On legal matters, it rarely is.

Start your own blog. Based on your name, and grow it through your passion. No legal issues there. But the path you take now could be riddled with issues, a legal minefield. Always best to brand you and hold that domain name tight; you own it and you are in charge. I'd let this site go immediately.
