Many bloggers have a "message" and are trying to help others even though they aren't trying to monetize their knowledge.

Maybe their mom got her pension stolen by identity thieves or their dog has won a bunch of prizes or they are a master fisherman and they just want to share and help others.

For many folks, the recognition of high rankings or links is almost as good as or better than $$.

  • Blog site owners may not selling anything but they still can monetize through AdSense or other ads. If they are not doing so, this may due to their passion or personal interest.

Blogsites like to rank in the search engine in order to promote their information and knowledge. There is no point in writing and presenting your research if it is not available to the right people.
Even a single thought can bring a revolution, so when the bloggers are willing to spend time and efforts on something, they'd like to promote it to everyone and increase their outreach as much as possible.
Secondly, they like to rank in the search engines to earn money. As google Adsense, Media.net and many other ad networks, as well as affiliate marketers, use their blogs to earn.
The ad networks mentioned above pay on per click(CPC) and Pay per thousand impressions/views(CPM). The more you have traffic, the more clicks you'd be having and more views you'd be having as well.
So, these are the main reasons why a blog would like to rank in search engines.

    A few ideas for you:

    - Google rewards content rich sites, whether or not these blogs are monetized.

    - Folks can share value, have fun and have no interest in making money from sites.

    - You can monetize a blog, have fun helping folks and rank on Google.

There are many sources of income for bloggers that they don't need to sell any physical products or services.

Sure they're not selling their own goods, but they might be affiliate marketers who make a quick buck through promoting other brands. Or they can be aspiring influencers who want their blogs to get noticed. They can also be running paid ads on their blogs. The higher their ranking on search engines, the more likely they'll earn through them.

And besides, who wouldn't want to be on the front pages? It's a good indicator of a blog's quality. Some will even hire writers to make blog posts for them.
